My best friend's biopsy was just confirmed as Paget's disease this week and she is reading as much as possible forums and in medical journals.  She noticed that many women who were diagnosed opted for double masectomies and wondered why if it was only diagnosed in one breast. Thanks for any input. She is very afraid and rightly so.

Hello sstar1, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.

The section Surgery for Paget's Disease of the main Breastcancer.org site discusses surgical treatment options, and we hope you will hear from other members about their own experiences with choosing prophylactic mastectomy, and there's more info on the site in the section Prophylactic Mastectomy, and some of the reasons women choose it.

    Best wishes to your friend.

Went for the single mast and wished I had done the double just so I could be symmetrical. However, I am glad that I don't have LE risk in both arms because I did only the one breast. Do have your friend listen to the mods and look at the research.  Everyone must make a decision that is right for them and their particular situation.
