Neuropathy-Feet & Hands

I've just had my first Chemo treatment last Thurs, with a combination of Taxotere and Cytoxin. For the last 4 days I'm experiencing Neuropathy pain and swelling. It's especially pronounced in the bottoms of my feet and top of one hand (where I.V. site was). Oncologist is "trying" Ibuprofen, for 48 hrs to see if it relieves. But, it's worse, to the point of hard to walk, etc...

Suggestions, please from patients that have had similar situations! I see some suggestions of Cymbalta, Topical Creams, and or pain patches.

Thanks!

My Onco nurse told me about b6 & b12 vitamins. It really worked for me. The neuropathy started after my 2nd treatment & I was told about b6 first. It did the job!!!

dlegg1- Are you icing your fingers and toes?  My onco suggested the icing to help prevent nail damage but I think it may have also helped lessen the neuropathy too.  I also made sure that I did not massage my feet or hands during my time in chemoland since it just seemed to me that massaging might cause the chemo to affect more of the nerves.  I have no scientific research or studies that say this is true; it's just my theory.  So sorry you are having such a tough time.

I have been icing and taking b6 from the beginning even though the MO and chemo nurses told me it want necessary during AC portion. I'm so afraid of losing my toenails for some reason. By #4 ac, I had numbness in fingers and lips. I began having neuropathy in toes and left thigh ( which no one has heard of at my center) during my first taxol infusion. I began taking L glutamine and acetyl L carnatine the next day and I believe it is helping a lot. I still have constant numbness in the tip of my index finger and some occasional tingling toes but if I am late taking one if my glutamine doses, I can tell because my feet get tingly all over. Hope this might help.

Icing hands and feet works - I write a blog and tell everyone to do it.  Everyone who has done it has had no nail loss and no neuropathy.  It worked for me.  My infusion center now tells other women to do it with Taxol or Taxotere...
