I was one of the lucky ones. My skin got mildly red and I did develop a rash but no blistering or peeling. Hydrocortisone ointment took care of the rash. The redness abated two weeks after my treatments ended. I still have some soreness in my treated breast and get zingers every so often. My fatigue has lessened but I'm not back to 100% yet.

Many people here are confusing pigment in skin and the sun's rays with Xray beams. Xray radiation is not effected by race or pigment. I have been getting into a cool pool at twilight every night and it has helped alot. You can feel the heat in the water around my breast which means the heat is being transferred out! I am careful to rinse as soon as possible right after.

Today was my last rads treatment and I am happy to say that after 16 whole breast treatments here in Canada I have slight redness under my breast and the whole breast is somewhat pink and a bit achy. Other than that I feel well. I am forever different but grateful that I was able to have treatment that gives me the best chance for a long, healthy life. Time to celebrate!

Congratulations, Jessiebelle! Sounds like we had similar reactions to rads. My redness and rash went away within two weeks of finishing. The soreness persists, although it's intermittent. I can't pinpoint where it is - I just know my breast is sore.
