Sorry for the graphic nature of this post, but I am going crazy with vaginal and rectal tears , redness and severe pain. Could this possibly be caused by Arimidex?  I've been taking it three weeks and problem started three days ago.  I have call into Onc. who is supposed to call back this afternoon, but I'm really sufffering and would welcome any advice, feedback.....thanks for any help.       Bev

    Bev,

I have had increased vaginal dryness since taking Arimidex . You might also want to call your gyn so it can be checked out and something topical prescribed to ease the symptoms. Since Arimidex sucks all estrogen out of you, it makes sense that extreme vaginal dryness could occur, not sure about rectal. Hope you can relief soon.

I definitely had vaginal dryness - never had before AI (i was on Aromasin) - and also had tears as well.  Im not on any AI now due to other more severe SEs

oh my gosh i have exactly the the same as you Bev (but i'm on xeloda). Rectal tears / fissures, plus piles and general soreness in the whole area.  having a poo (sorry guys) is agony, and it bleeds a lot because i think the tears just don't heal while on xeloda.  it's actually my worst side effect.  i mentioned it to my BC nurse and she said i should go in so they can have a look...  i said god no!!!  no-one's looking up there!!!  but i did disover that canesten (that's what it's called here - an anti-fungal cream used for vaginal thrush (ie the whole area from front to back, if you get my drift) has made it an awful lot better, so i wonder if a fungal-type of infection is what causes some of the soreness.  maybe you could give it a try? x

Hi.  I know that I don't belong on this thread (sorry), but wanted to impart some info.  While taking Tamoxifen I got hemorrhoids.  I had never had one in my entire life (I'm 58), not even while I was pregnant.  About a month after I stopped taking the Tamoxifen, they went away and have not returned.  I have no doubt the T was the cause.  This makes me believe that medications can cause ANY symptoms/side effects regardless of whether of not your Dr. has heard of it.

I'm trying this out - its an old discussion but might be useful to some of you. Its absolutely a result of hormone depletion -

Hi everyone. I have been taking Arimidex for nearly four weeks now and I too have started experiencing bleeding from haemorrhoids. Thank goodness for these posts (and all of your comments) because I will not not be as nervous/anxious when I bring this issue up when I next see my specialist. Itchy bottom too, but not super bad for me. Apart from this, so far so good, with no other noticeable side effects. Good luck everyone and 'Hello!' from Australia x
