LCIS and Papilloma

Hello everybody,

I have LCIS (diagnosed 10/2012) and just had an excisional biopsy of a papilloma. After waiting for 7 days, I got my pathology results yesterday and they found no malignancy! Yahoo! But my onc never said anything about it being benign. Is there some gray area in between? She also said they didn't exactly get ALL of the papilloma, but it would be "insanity" to keep going in and chopping away at it (her words). Hmmm. My results showed intraductal papilloma with florid epithelial hyperplasia. My onc kept saying not to worry, that my LCIS "trumped" this in terms of anything to worry about. I'm not sure I like her choice of words. My path report was delayed bacause they sent it around for some second opinions regarding the fact that they did not excise all of the papilloma.

So now, while I'm happy that they found no malignancy, I feel very confused and still worried about what they did find. Is it nothing? Is it something? Now i guess I wait until my next mammo in Nov to find the next lump.

Any thoughts from my LCIS sisters out there? Anybody have a similar story?

I think it's "nothing".  It is a benign finding.  Good for you!!!  A single papilloma does not raise bc risk according to my onc.  I asked him this several years back for a friend who had one, so if there is any new info on increased risk, maybe someone else will have it.

Agree with your doc that the LCIS is more serious than the papilloma.  Often they don't even remove papilloma.  Probably in your case, with a history of LCIS they wanted to be sure.

I had "mild intraductal papillomatosis" on one biopsy.  No one cared much about it :)
