DES Daughter With Concerns
Hello to all,
I am a DES Daughter , age 50 and new to this site. I have no family history of breast cancer . My mother passed away last year after battling endomitrial / pelvic cancer. For the last 2 years I have had an area on the left side of my back near my shoulder blade which is a 6 x 6 inch area that has been itching. 2 months ago I had a re occuring burning / itchy area on my left breast located at the 3 o 'clock point. I decided to buy new bras to fix the problem . I also decided 2 weeks later to change my body wash to an organic body wash. The problem continued. During this time I noticed if I brushed my left arm across the left side of my breast the area felt bruised . Friday , June 7 , I woke up at 3:40 am with a pain starting at the left side of my left breast which shot up into my armpit and down my left arm . I fell back to sleep and later that morning I did a breast exam on both breast's and found an M & M sized lump in my left breast . When I slightly press on the lump there is some pain but more of a deep bruise feeling Today , June 10th at 7:30 am I was on the phone making an appointment with my GP . I told my GP what I had experienced over the last 2 months . My GP found the lump and also noted that my left armpit also has a lump and or swollen lymphnodes . I was told it is an abscesed cyst and was given antibiotics and I am to make an appointment for a mammogram in the next week or two . I wanted to share this information . I wil post a follow up after the mammogram.
Thank You and Best Wishes To All .

Hi EB009, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.
You're wise to get changes like this checked. While waiting for the mammogram appointment you may find this article of our main site helpful: What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas.
Please keep us posted. This wonderful community is here to help you.

Dear eb009,
Good luck. Try to stay calm, though I know that is easier said than done. I am a DES daughter, too. Been through BC as you can see, a few years ago. Doing fine and feeling great now. Keep us posted, sending you hugs. -
Thank you sgreenarch , I will repost as soon as I get my results . I was told to finish my script of antibiotics and in a week or 2 make an appointment for my mammo . I think not . I will finish my meds but I'm not waiting until the bottle is empty . I'm calling in the AM to set up an appointment . I haven't felt well for a while and I now know why . But I refuse to wait . At this point I don't even know how long I have had the actual lump's ... possibly close to a year . Cyst or not , I refuse to wait .

Even though I do a self breast exam twice a month due to being a DES daughter , the lumps may have been there for a while and just surfaced recently . As I mentioned , I have not felt like myself for quit some time . I know my body . Im setting that appointment ASAP .I honestly feel it is much more than an abscessed cyst just by the changes in my mood , my motivation and constant fatigue for close to a year with no answers from other Dr I have seen for fatigue . If it were an abscessed cyst I feel it would have given me more problems sooner than now .

I'm also a DES daughter, age 59, diagnosed with breast cancer in March. Until seeing this thread, I had never gave much thought to a possible connection between DES and BC. My ob/gyn never mentioned it. Does anyone know what the research is about this?

Update : Mamo is set for July 2nd.

liza23 - I posted this link in an earlier thread. This is one of the latest reports on DES daughters with information on breast cancer risk. The abstract and free full text of the article are available. Hope this link works.....

EB009 -- I hope this turns out to be nothing serious but it is good that you are advocating for yourself. It is what we all need to do.
