BC and Cerebral palsy?

Options

Hi,

I am 44 pre or (maybe peri menopausal) diagnosed last month with IDC stage 1  1.3 cm no nodes clean margins e/r p/r+ HER2 neg

I was born with moderate spastic diplegia CP and BEFORE th BC I was already expierencing and adressing a great downturn in my mobility. I bring this up because just had the Oncoscore dx done and came back as a 21  so borderline intermediate NOW my onco is really pushing chemo, and given what I have read about the neurotoxic effects of chemo I may opt out unless REALLY compelled to do so. Any one else with BC and CP??

Thanks

Have you gotten a second opinion on chemotherapy?  I do not have CP, but I had some neurological damage from back surgery years ago, and that was a factor in my choice, the oncologist's choice in chemotherapy.  Some are more likely to cause neurological problems, such as neuropathy than others.

I hope you will get a second opinion, if you haven't already.

    Sunflowers,

I am definately thinking of getting a second opinion! That is EXACTLY where my head was at! But my poor hubby is thinking maybe we shouldn't question the current onco or the chemo, but I am very in tune with how my body reacts with my CP. So hopefully my oncologist WILL actually listen and not brush this aspect of my diagnoses aside and consider it.  If not I may need to find a new onco.  May I ask what your onco decided as far as treatment choice. I know everyone is different and I am not you, If you'd prefer not to answer I understand.  Thanks for your time--Alicia

    Hi,

I am 43 and diagnosed idc with one positive node on 7/10/2013.  I also have mild cerebral palsy.  I will keep you posted as to my status and treatments if you agree to do the same.  I would love to write more but I am still in shock over my diagnosis.

    Hi Maryann-

We're so sorry to hear of the difficulties you're having. We can't imagine the difficulty of managing a breast cancer diagnosis and CP. Have your doctors said anything about your worsening CP? You may also try posting in our chemo forum, to find out from others if they've experienced similar symptoms after completing treatment. You can find that forum here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/69
