Chemo and sun exposure

I finished my chemo treatment 10 days ago and went to see my MO today. He said to be careful in the sun for the next year. Was anyone else told this? I have been out in the sun during treatment because I have two young children and I noticed my chest gets red and itchy (even with sunscreen). Anyone else experience this??
