Triple negative breast cancer recurrence

Hi Everyone, I am new to the form and was diagnosed with stage 2a triple negative breast cancer 3 years ago.  I still live with the fear of recurrence.  It's pretty hard dealing with this. I have heard from others that with triple negative breast cancer, it is rare to have a recurrence after 5 to 10 years.  Is this true?  Are there any women here who have experienced recurrences of TNBC even after 5 years of being in remission?

I was diagnosed in 1990.  Recurrence of Stage IV in 2009.

I am so sorry to hear of your recurrence and stage 4 diagnosis 20 years after original diagnosis. I'm sure by then cancer was not on your mind. I'm not stage 4 but wanted to reach out to you and give you prayers for strength as you go through this. I know others will be along soon.

stage 1 dec 2001....stage 4 may 2013...never thought it would happen since i was over 10 yrs out.

I thought Triple Negative Breast Cancer wasn't discovered until 2006, so how did your doctors know that you had in 2001?

Your information regarding trip neg being discovered in 2006 is inaccurate.

Latoya is somewhat correct. In 2000 no one mentioned it at all. It was not recognized at the time. Yes your pathology would say negatives down the line but that was that. One day like in 2007 I came across a story about how doctors were realizing it was in a category of its own and that's the day I realized well I'm in that 15%
