I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Grade 1 and had a lumpectomy as well as a second biopsy of a suspicious site in the same quadrant.  The path report for the site which had been previously needle-biopsied came back, "No malignancy."  And the path report for the second site which had previously been needle-biopsied and shown to have atypical cells came back, "No atypical cells."  The BS and the MO said they don't see this very often but sometimes the needle biopsy removes the lesion.  Has anyone else had this experience?

I start rads today for any errant cells and my MO wants me to start Aromasin in August.  I can understand the need for rads but am unconvinced about Aromasin especially since I already have osteopenia.

Yes, the same thing happened to me - the entire area (small DCIS with even smaller IDC) was removed by the biopsy - the lumpectomy came back with no malignant cells.   Did rads, and am now on Tamoxifen (edited to add in light of the comments regarding AI's and ostopenia, that I am pre-menopausal).   The surgeon says she's seeing it happening more and more frequently lately.

I was osteopenic, on the edge of osteoporosis (-2.4), so I refused the AI, and agreed to tamoxifen.
In post-menopausal women, tamox is a bone builder - first cousing to Evista, another SERM that is actually used to build bones.

    Worked just fine

I don't see my MO until August but wonder if she thinks that the cancer may spread to the bone if not on AI.  The AI can help prevent that.

ICanDoThis (love that name!) why tamox and not Evista?  Aren't both SERMs?  I wonder about side effects and will have to look into that.
