Diagnosis of LCIS

In February of this year I had breast reduction surgery. Normal procedure is they send the breast tissue in for pathology.  Mine returned with a finding of multifocal LCIS and fibrocystic disease with flat epithelial atypia in the left breast and fibrocystic disease with FOCI of flat epithelial atypia in the right breast. After consultation with a surgeon and two oncologists I decided to proceed with Tamoxifen for 5 years and close observation. Having just had breast reduction surgery, I wasn't ready to go through that again and the oncologists agreed.  My maternal grandmother had a radical mastectomy when she was in her 50s with no recurrance.  I have no sisters and my Mom does not have breast cancer. I don't like the side effects of Tamoxifen, but I do understand the risks and know that I will be on cancer watch...but I really wanted to keep my new smaller boobs! I guess the upside is that I know about the LCIS and can do something proactive about it.

I think the best thing we can do is try to keep our weight normal, exercise, don't drink excessively & do our best not to obsess about it. I won't say I don't get anxious come mammo\MRI time though...
