Advice on MRI results-Worried.

Hi Everyone,

We got the results from my wife's MRI yesterday and she doesn't see her oncologist until Tuesday for explanation. We just couldn't wait that long not knowing if we were looking at a recurrence. She has been having pain in the breast that was treated for BC 2 years ago as well as itching and it turning slightly pink. Our worst fear is IBC but when her rad. onc. saw her 2 weeks ago she was told this did not look like IBC as the doctor has treated those cases and put her on an antibiotic. The pain is still there so we got her annual MRI moved up a week. The results are as follows in comparison to her MRI last year.

Comment-"Mild bilateral fibroglandular enhancement.[]suspicious enhancement within the right breast. (This is the breast that did not have cancer last time)

On the left, postsurgical changes outer posterior breast noting a 2.0x2.2 cm fluid collection likely hematoma/seroma, similar to prior examination. Thin enhancement is present along the inferior border of the serome of uncertain etiology but likely is artifactual. Recommend ultrasound of this region as well as ultrasound of the symtomatic region of the left breast.

Assesment: BIRADS 0: Incomplete, need additional imaging.

Recommendation: 1. Left breast ultrasound

                             2. Screening right mammography.

A mammogram was already scheduled for this tuesday as well as a follow up from the antibiotic treatment woth her rad onc. The fact that the radiologist did not order a biopsy is giving us some comfort. She is also due to start her period any day and I have haerd that can cause some issues with an MRI.

We are praying that this is a seroma infection or something in the left and not IBC. If there is something going on in the right she feels that it would be being caught extremely early as she just had a mammogram 3 months ago.

Does anyone have a similar experience with pain, itching and slight reddining (mainly when coming out of the shower) that proved to be benign?

Thank you.

I am no doctor, and have not had these symptons, but the report sounds fine... Many things can cause redness and itching, especially infection. Perhaps the antibiotic didn't work, and it is indeed an infection.
