Breast Lymphedema - Under control in winter; returns in summer?

Hi, has this hppened to you?  What hae you done?  I am terribly upset.  I was doing so well that I was about ready tor eturn to underwire bras, etc. Thanks!

HVV, More than likely the hot weather has caused your swelling. Many find this to be true. About underwires, You have to be careful that they don't cut your lymph flow under your breast or your going to end up with a worse swell problem. Many with LE in breast only wear cami's which is a drag but doesn't cause swelling. There are pretty ones out there, it is just finding one that doesn't have scratchy threads or harsh seams.They also wear compression bras.

Please no constriction at the band area and no tight straps digging into your shoulders.

But, yeah, it happens every summer. Just takes more care until the hot weather leaves. I like to use the Lebed opening section (do you have the Lebed DVD?) daily to keep everything moving. REALLY helps in summer because I have less energy in the heat for other exercise, and less patience with extra self-MLD. Here's the Lebed DVD:

The sad story is that LE is chronic, and even if you keep it under control for a long period of time, it's still there--the dysfunction caused by our cancer treatment isn't fixable. So planning to go back to underwires (or any other pre-LE practice for that matter) isn't going to happen without unwanted consequences.

Still, a flare like this is disheartening and even alarming, and it sure does take the wind out of our sails. Be extra good to yourself. Chocolate helps!
