Taxol bone and joint pain: Lonely.

Hi,

I'm new here and not sure where to start. I feel lonely tonight, sitting with too many side-effects from a chemo drug which supposedly has few. The joint and bone pain I feel a few days after each treatment makes me feel isolated and hyper-sensitive, and I find little solace complaining about it.

I just want some empathy.

😞

I am having the same bone and joint pain. I asked my MO what to do and she told me to take Claritin and Benadryl for three days following treatment.

Claritin once daily and benadryl (25mg) twice a day. for 3 days.

I am starting tomorrow. I have treatments on Mondays.

I hope this helps your pain and I am sorry that you are having pain. I know exactly how you are feeling. I hope you can find some comfort soon.

Thanks Skigirl, that does help. I have treatments on Wednesdays, so I'll give this a go on Thursday. Thank you!

HI , I just had my first taxol treatment on Wed. I'm a little nervous about the joint pain that I hear is common. I had really bad pain during my AC portion due to the weekly neupogen shots. I'm so glad that part is over as I feel so much better...I was told that the effects of Taxol starts comming on after the third or forth treatment is this true? What can I do to help prevent the bone pain? Any other side effects I should know about? ALso anyone also getting Herceptin with their Taxol? Thank you!!

My very first post. Please forgive me if I'm doing something wrong in the format. Finished a/c, halfway through taxol. Mastectomy to follow. 49 years old.
Skigirl72 - Thanks for the Claritin/Benadryl suggestion. I too will try it.
Gailani- my doc stopped the neulasta shots when I finished a/c and started taxol because he didn't think I could handle the bone pain from both. He monitors my blood closely and I haven't needed the blood booster so far.

NantucketYogini - you are not alone and even if I all I can give you is empathy, sympathy and positive thoughts, you've got it. I too am tired of complaining, particularly to those want to help but who can't possibly understand. I do understand and hope that in the past month since you posted, you have gotten some relief. If you discover anything else that helps, please let us know. Take care.

TasiaB- I have a hard time sleeping the day of and the next three days oafter treatment. I tried ambien but that did nothing and left me really tired the next day. I then went back and tried the Lorazapam that was given to me during AC. That was so much better. I take one before bed and that helps. I just finished my 4th treatment and this one is much harder than the previous ones. I guess it's slowly affecting me. Joint pain, Major tiredness...Nose bleeds..I know I should exercise but I'm just so tired!! I was taking advil but stopped because I'm afraid it may contribute to my nose bleeds..I just rested and am slowly feeling better. Take care everyone!

Motherofall6 - a few suggestions on Taxol that worked for me and my sister. We took regular Claritin during taxol and really helped the bone pain. I would literally cry from the pain and Claritin helped a lot.

I had bloody noses, too, which I had never had before Taxol. I used saline spray for babies several times a day . It helped a whole lot. Really slowed them down.

Sending my best to you! I'm 6 years out from chemo and it was all worth it!

I was advised to eat foods high in magnesium (mangoes, for example) and maybe that helped. My onc prescribed pain meds, but I was able to avoid taking them.

Rest when you need to, and be good to yourself!

Spring weather is here. A warm sunny day is always nice! (Well, after the predicted snow this week! ;) Hang in there, you will get through this!

    Hugs from NYC
