Hi I am new to this site.

I am 46 and have never used birth control before, I have had a tram flap reconstruction (pedicled) done after a mastectomy.  Has anyone heard of the essure birth control procedure if it is possible to have this procedure after major abdonminal surgery?  I am waiting for some advice from my gyno but was wondering if anyone out there has had this done? Thanks for your help.

I had a Mirena IUD. I was so sad to have it removed as I did not have many periods while on it.

I just had the Essure placed in December. Done outpatient surgery under sedation. Very quick. Some cramping in recovery, but well controled with 2 doses of IV Fentanyl. Had motrin prior to going home and had nothing else for pain there after. Spotting x1 or 2 days. No pain with periods. I had my follow up HSG in April (hysterosalpingogram). Took 800mg motrin prior to procedure. Wasn't that bad except for when they inflated the catheter-so the doc deflated it and held it in place while performing the procedure. Official word is the tubes are blocked. YEAH!. Easiest thing I did during this entire BC trip.

YVW Nissi. I forgot to mention that my Gyne Doc got a coil from the rep so I could "wear" it against my skin for a few days to check for a reaction. I am 'reactive' to almost every thing these days. It is comprised of nickel but mostly Titanium (which I know I can tolerate). I placed it on my abdomen above all of my abd work and secured it with a small square of opsite (the clear dressing). Obviously I had no reaction so I went ahead with the procedure.

Good luck and if you have anymore ?s please feel free to PM me.

    :)
