A Great Read I HIGHLY Recommend!
I had a BMX on April 25. Being a WW member, and in recovery from surgery, I couldn't wait 'till 2 days ago to get to 1 or 2 of my WW meetings (in person) again. But - just my luck! - as my car was leaving my driveway, could not help but feel its shuddering... oh, oh - quickly turned around and returned to my garage... lo & behold, to find that 1 of my rear car tires was FLAT!
So, with DH working entire day, and no other means of transport, I had to stay home, much to my chagrin. Talk about being depressed! And I was about to go for a good walk in nearby park afterwards with 1 of my dearest WW friends (who, btw, was at hospital entire time pre- and post-BMX with my family!).
So now, bored outta my wits, nowhere to go... I let my fingers do the walkin' on the Internet, to my library's website, and discovered how really neat e-books are! Ha! Over a year ago, I ran into a kind lady at the grocery store, don't know how it came about, but she recommended VERY HIGHLY a GREAT "can't-put-it-down" book she read, that she just HAD to share with me... details of what she read of really remained in my mind... and I kinda "shelved it away" for "future use."
The book she recommended to me - as I do to ALL BC sisters of mine - is the book called "UNBROKEN" by Laura Hillenbrand (sp?). Book is a REAL-life story of a runner, who almost beat Roger Bannister's record of 4:00-minute mile time in the 1936 Olympic Games... who went into Word War II, plane crashed at sea... over 40 days on a floating raft... shark evasions... and landed on a Pacific island held by the Japanese... sent to a VERY cruel & sadistic Japanese POW prisons... and his eventual release and redemption.
Ladies, I can tell you this: having read this book, I (1) understand why my shopper-friend said it was on the NY Times Bestseller List for eeons... and (2) what HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT that I got from reading the story of this brave "unbroken" individual... what a great "shot-in-the-arm" this "tool" gave me in my fight against the BC "monster"!
HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!

Thanks for the reply, joyh1109! I do have to admit, I was able to access the "e-book" version of this title around lunchtime on Saturday, and was literally "glued" to my PC laptop screen... all the way until 2:30 a.m. the following day (er, night), when I got to "break" at a new chapter (about 65% of the book ready by me by that point), just to get some sleep! I confess that this book did (like that lady warned me) "kept me on the edge of my chair" on the sofa for hours at a time!! Worth it... every minute of it...
Not only that, btw, I subscribe to Runner's World magazine, and the subject of the book (Louie Zamperini- sp?) was prominently featured - as winner of their "Lifetime Achievement Award" for famous runners in the Dec 2012 or January 2013 issue... and why not? I think he's 96 now! Hey, now THAT'S the road I also wanna take - RUNNING!!
WHAT AN INSPIRATION TO ALL OF US WITH BC AND SURVIVORS ALIKE!!!
