I've noticed that many are saying that the cancers find a way to exist without hormones, but my first one was ER/PR negative and HER2 positive, and seven years later, the second one came back ER/PR positive and HER2 negative. The doctor said nobody knows if this is a recurrence of the same tumor which has changed its characteristics, or a completely different, new tumor!

I had my 2nd bc change hormone receptor status.  I had my first bc 8 years ago at age 41 in 2005, it was er/pr+, her2-, grade 3.  I had what was suppose to be a prophylatic bilateral masectomy with reconstruction in December 2013 due to high risk family history in past three years (2 sisters diagnosed with bc) and they found a new Primary bc in my same breast via the pathology results - this time the cancer is Triple Negative and grade 1.

I dont know what the percentages are of tumours changing receptor status but I know a few women that this has happened to.
