Is the CYP2D6 blood test for tamoxifen done in Australia

Options

Good evening ladies,

Does anyone know if the pathology centres and for that matter our doctors do the CYP2D6 blood test to see how we metabolise tamoxifen here in Australia.  I believe it can be done in other countries, however we do seem to be a bit behind a lot of other countries with some of our testing eg Onco DX testing.  It would be appreciated if anyone knows, as I would like to hear where you had it done.

thanks Ched

Healthscope do it here in Australia. It's called the Tamoxifen PredictAR test - http://www.healthscopepathology.com.au/

It costs $100 and is not covered by Medicare. You just take the order to your nearest Healthscope path collection place and the test is a simple blood draw. Results and a very comprehensive report back to your doctor within a week or so.

Hi Jenn,  Thanks for your response.  I live in the country and the GP's don't seem to know too much about breast cancer treatment and the drugs or the types of testing available.
