Port flipping. Ouch!

Options

I went in for my first labs after starting AC last week. I was thinking this was the easy visit. Not so much. They told me my port was flipped over and tried for twenty minutes to flip it back with their hands. Everyone had a go with no luck. They said oh your port is supposed to be stitched into a muscle pocket to prevent flipping. Guess what? It is!!! That's why it hurt so much when they were trying to flip it and it was not flipped to begin with. I got sent down to the MO to have them look at it. They stuck me a couple more times and said this isn't flipped and took my blood. Oh my gosh it hurts so much!!!!! Then the NP said oh look you still have a stitch that didnt desolve. I'll cut that off next time. Then she went ahead and did it today. And that hurt even worse. Now I can barely move my arm. Ouch ouch whine whine. I am scared they won't be able to locate my port properly the next 14 weeks I have to go there. Anyone else have port trouble or solutions.

    Ouch is an understatement.

So sorry that you had to go through all of that.

I didn't have any port trouble - so no experiential suggestions.

But maybe a call to intervention radiology to let the surgeon know who placed it. Maybe he/she can read the lab the riot act regarding the treatment you received.

I had a Bard PowerPoint but did not have blood draws from it at the lab. They were not qualified to access it. It did work like a charm all through 20 chemo treatments and a couple flushes.

    Hugs for hurts! Ouch!

Hi. I started a rash on my port, 6 months after having it put in. They found out it was a first sign of an allergic reaction to the herceptin. A few weeks later I got a rash and burns on my hands to my elbows. They had to stop the herceptin. They gave me steroid creams for it, but colloidal oatmeal lotion applied 3 times a day worked best. I had to have the port removed, then I got plaque psorasis where the port was. That was from the use of steroid cream. They say there is no cure for this....but I was on the budwig diet, so I applied the cottage cheese and flax mixture on it once a day. Guess what, it cleared up almost completely in 3 weeks. I hope this will be helpful to someone. Good luck you all!
