radiation

Just wanted to say I finished my 33 radiation treatments on Monday.  I read a lot of things on here about side effects and just wanted to give my story.  I had no fatigue, and my skin did burn and peel, but with aquaphor and the bandages the nurses put on me it was totally tolerable.  I realize not everyone has the luck I had but just wanted to put it out there for anyone facing it al that it can go very well with minimal side effects.  Everyone is different.  Next step is to be on the estrogen blocking medication for 5 years.  I am nervous about that since I hear they cause hot flashes and I already have those roughly one an hour!  Anyone have information on that topic?  I am wondering and my surgeon also said I may not have more hot flashes since I am already in menopause and already have them.  There are several different medications I could try too.  Thanks for any feedback.

Good deal, kgl55!! I, too have completed radiation (35!). The only fatigue I experienced was when I caught a cold. My skin held up very well, looked like a sunburn, with a bit of a tan. I used aloe Vera after each treatment and again when going to bed. Mid way through treatments my skin started to look very dry so I switched to CeraVe lotion. I'm 3 weeks out from my last rads and my skin almost looks like it did pre treatment! Started wearing my bra last week.......! I used corn starch under the breast to prevent moisture which could lead to skin break down.

I'm on arimidex......have had hot flashes, but no worse than pre cancer. Only 4 years, 11 months, 1week, and 5 days left with arimidex!
