Lower back pain

Options

I am worried sick. I have been having lower back pain in right side which was going to my pelvis, groin and inner thigh for 4 weeks now. It started 2 weeks after my surgery. It was and is bad when I sit for long time while working. No pain when I walk or sleep. I had a lower abdominal CT and barium enema for some other reason on Feb 10th, 4 days before my surgery and was normal. One week after I started having pain (3 weeks ago) had a bone scan and was normal. Went to my GP and rheumatologist and both recommended PT. I started PT a week ago and seen improvement. No more pains in my groin or thigh just back from a week. My MO isn't concerned at all as I was node negative and no LVI. All said no to do MRI. Should I push for it? Is it symptoms of bone mets?

I think that they are not concerned because your bone scan would have showed bone mets and most likely they do not think that something would have grown in the 3 weeks since you've had it. The fact that PT helped is telling, perhaps it is muscular in nature?

Could it be disc problems in your lumbar area? a herniated disc can cause all those pains you describe and many more from the nerve being impinged on by the disc. Also so can a Sacroyliac joint (SI Joint)- not sure of spelling on that one ..can cause pain as you indicated. You may want to see your primary doctor or an othopedic or neurologist who specialize in those areas and have them check you out for lumbar issues.  Good luck to you. I hope it's nothing serious.  I get SI joint and Lumbar joint injections several times a year that take away a great amount of the pain.

Good luck, let us know how you're doing.

I had an appointment with my Cancer Surgeon today to discuss my lower back pain so I am totally feeling your pain and situation. My surgeon is sending me for a PET scan despite the concerns of radiation exposure. He said he doesn't feel he can ignore it. Right now all I can do besides be scared out of my wits is to hope for the best. Wishing you well.

My Oncs sent me for a PET and brain MRI. Everything came back NED!! The diagnosis - arthritic side-effects from chemo for my back and my brain activity showed evidence of migraines from "acute hypertension." That doesn't surprise me one bit! I'm living on the edge of sanity every second lately.

Are you taking any kind of hormone treatment?  They can exacerbate any arthritic conditions and symptoms.....

Lily, I'm on Herceptin - which can explain some of my dizziness. Right now the thought is that A/C, Taxol or Neulasta has left me with this back pain.
