Radiation with a defibrillator?

My mom is 75 and was diagnosed with breast cancer last September.  She's had a defibrillator for the past 18 years, implanted in her stomach.  She is at the point again when it needs to be changed however, stomach implantation is no longer used and her cardiologist needs to put a new one in her upper left chest.  Her cancer was in her right breast and nodes under right arm.  Her cardiologist wants the radiation to be done before changing it because he's afraid the radiation will fry the new device.  Both her breast surgeon and oncologist said they've dealt with this before and it's never damaged the implanted device.  Next week she goes to see the radiation oncologist to talk about radiation but he is going to talk to the cardiologist first so that then can agree on which should come first, radiation or defibrillator. 

Has anyone had an issue with radiation with a pacemaker or defibrillator?
