BIRADS 5
Hello
I wanted to present the case of my mother, two weeks ago she detected a lump in her breast, and took an x-ray it showed a 2cm mass with spiculated margins classified as BIRADS 4, went to an oncologist and said they had been benevolent to label it as BIRADS 4 and it was clear a BIRADS 5 for him, my mom in a week or two is planning to submit intraoperative biopsy where surgery removes the tumor a biopsy is made urgently and if it goes benign they will close and nothing is done but if it is malignant breast and lymph will be extirpated, I've been reading and BIRADS 5 has over 95% chance of being malignant really hope my mom into that 5% of that is benign and everything is remains as a fright.
Regards

So sorry about your Mom San1209. Sometimes a Birads 5 is benign. I know it looks bad right now, but there is still that small chance. Also, the radiologist rated it a 4 and they look at mammos all the time so don't listen to the oncologist so much. Keep thinking positive! If it is indeed cancer, there are many women and men here at BCO that will answer any and all questions they can to help you. In the meantime, keep positive!

Thanks for your words. I will let you know the results once i have them.

San,
Yes a spiculated mass rates a BIRAD 5, for that is concerning.
However, there are a few other things that present themselves as spiculated that are B9. A radial scar is amongst them.
So there is a chance it can be B9. Just dont be taken off guard if it is cancer. In the mean time, dont do too much research on Dr Google. You dont have enough information.
"Breast cancer" is an umbrella term that covers a wide variety of different cancers that can effect the breast. If it is cancer, it will take a while before you get all the pieces of the puzzle together as to what specifically you mother is dealing with.
If you feel a need to get "some" information to start understanding the medical-eze, I recommend going to the homepage of breastcancer.org and click on the link of "diagnosis and treatment"
There you will learn terms like "grade" "stage" "hormone receptors". It's a good place to start if this is your mother's journey.
