Chemo didn't work and now in limbo....

Options

Hi I am bewildered and confused and numb. Last February I went for a biopsy after I found a lump in my breast. It was cancer early stages and had gone to "1" lymph node. I was told in a year I would be walking away a cancer survivor.

I started chemo right after the biopsy and for 6 months had treatments. I was checked after each chemo treatment to make sure my lump was getting smaller.

After chemo I had a lumpectomy and removal of lymph nodes. I was told all the margins weren't cleared and more lymph nodes were found to be positive.

I then had another operation within 2 weeks and this time they got all the margins in my breast but there were a lot more lymph nodes affected apparently the "chemo treatments" didn't work completely.

I then went on to radiation treatments 33 in all and it went well so I thought. I finished the treatments in December and just had a mammogram March 27th and "calcifications" were found. The doctor said they appeared to be suspicious and now I have to go for 2 biopsies.

I just don't understand? Did the radiation treatments not work either? The doctors called this "unusual"

I'm scared as hell........If it is cancer I have to go through a third operation and who knows what.

Did this happen to anyone or do you know anyone this happened to?

I feel like the movie "Groundhog Day" it never ends the same thing keeps happening

Thanks for any feedback

(((evjaq))) I'm so sorry you've had all this discouraging news since starting treatment...I think we all anticipate that once we start treatment the news will begin to improve as we begin to fight the beast...I wish we had the "right" answers and that there was one way to kill this and make it go away forever but unfortunately there isn't...but, I believe there are many, many drugs and treatments and if the first plan doesn't work there are dedicated, talented people on our medical teams who will find other ways to get the job done...I am so new to this disease and I don't know yet what is next for me...I just started an aromatase inhibitor as a folllow up to my surgery and chemo - I had positive nodes but my tumor was highly estrogen positive so I hope this does the job...there are so many long term survivors on these boards, I am sure they can help you with their wisdom and good advice. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that you are surrounded by a network of love and support to help lift your spirits:) ((((Hugs)))) Maureen
