radiation side effects

Options

I have 10 treatments to go and the last 5 will be specific to the area where the cancer was.  My skin is very irritated, red like a sunburn and blotchy, under my arm is the worst, peeling.  Wondering how much worse it is going to get these last two weeks.  Not feeling any fatigue which is good, but concerned about my skin.  Anyone have anything to share on this.  Thanks

kgi55,  So sorry you are suffering with these SEs.  Unfortunately it will not get better until the week after radiation ends.  What is better is knowing that no more damage is being inflicted.

You might ask your RO to let you get your boost now to give your area under the arm a rest.  Then return to give the final treatment after the boost.  My underarm area hurt so much, but never peeled or blistered there.  I blisterned on what was left of my areola, but not until the week after rads ended.  You may also ask your RO for something to help with the pain and irritation.

I kept reminding myself of how helpful radiation is in stopping a recurrence.  Hang in there.
