So we all hear how exercising just 3 hours a week lowers bc recurrence risk.  What I can't find is information on is, what  kind of exercise counts? Must it be aerobic? Can it be walking to work at a moderate pace?  Any links to info on this welcome.  Thanks in advance.

Come over to the Lets Post Our Daily Exercise thread and I'll bet that someone will have an answer with all the links etc.. I think all kinds of exercise 'counts' because exercise builds muscles and reduces the fat where estrogen is produced. Yes, it can be moderate....but it does need to be consistant.

In March 2012, I went on a four-month medically supervised fast (Optifast). One of the requirements was exercise...and by that, they meant ANY kind of exercise.

We were assigned pedometers, with a daily goal of 10,000 steps a day. You'd be surprised at how few steps we take unless we are actively striving for as many as possible.

We also translated other kinds of exercise into steps... like so many minutes of working in the garden equalled so many steps...

Walking was the best for me, as it was weight-bearing. I also rode my adult trike (I have balance issues) and went to water aerobics three times a week for an hour and a half in the pool, so I got my cardio and stretches there.

After that was over, my MO told me that diet and exercise had reduced my risk of recurrence by 23%. (I lost 60 pounds.)

I continue to move every day. Sometimes it's purposeful walking; sometimes it's moving heavy stuff in the yard. Sometimes it's cleaning out the garage. But I move every single day...that also helps with the achiness and stiffness from the AI.

It depends on what state of physical fitness you're in. If walking to work gets the heart rate up for you and really stretches your muscles, then I would think it counts. Of course any exercise is good for you. But you gotta start somewhere.

Blessings you crack me up with your long posts that retell your story. Laughing

And yes, I am guilty of retelling my story... but only when I think it might benefit someone who hasn't heard it before...

I do hope it IS funny to you....I don't mean to repeat myself over and over.....Frown

If I ever get to that point, I hope someone will just tell me to shut up....
