Paget's of the Breast

I have been recently diagnosed with Paget's of the breast. I first noticed a small red circle around my left nipple and decided to have it checked after realizing that it wasn't going away. My GP scheduled a mammogram which showed nothing then an ultrasound which indicated a extra layer of skin under my left nipple. My GP felt is was nothing to worry about but thought we best be prudent and have a breast specialist see me who also did not think it was Paget's but "just in case" performed a wedge biopsy. Since no other lumps appear in the breast it was suggested I have 2 options 1) removal of the nipple, areola and surrounding tissue or 2) mastectomy which would be a safer route to take to ensure no other cancer cells exist in the breast. Is there anyone else out there who has had to make this choice and if so, what did they choose? I'd also like to know the percentage of recurrence of cancer with Paget's of the nipple

Hi, Elisa51 - and welcome to the forum!

Until some other members come along to post, I wanted to make a suggestion:

On the left hand side of this page, you will see a blue box, and a line that says "SEARCH."

If you click on that, and type in Paget's Disease in the box that comes up, you will come up with at least 19 pages of posts on this subject.

Hope you find the information you need... wishing you the best!!!

Hi, most pagets only show up with a biopsy, I had mammograms ultra scan MRI scan, but it was the punch biopsy that showed it up. I had a wide excision but unfortunately not a clear margin so had a masectomy 3 weeks ago, just waiting for path lab report to see if I need more treatment. Mine was servere itchiness and red shiny nipple. Hope that helps.

    Lou.

    Hello fellow members:

In the interim, please consider visiting the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) to see if there's anything in the works using immunotherapy to treat this disease, or consider having them include you in their distribution list to get the latest development? Here's their link:

    P.S.

This VIDEO link talks about the use of immunotherapy in cancer treatment (current hot cancer treatment topic) and fascinating to watch.
