Anyone use United Healthcare to buy breast forms? Need advice

Options

We just started with United Healthcare this year.  Just got off the phone with them and according to their rep, their only in network provider of prosthetics is from Linkia, which is a contract organization who only deals with a company in my area that does  NOT sell breast forms at all.  I find this super hard to believe.

Does anyone here use United Healthcare and if so, do you know who their in network providers are??  Thanks for any help!

Curious to see any responses, I also just started with United Health Care in Sept. 2012.  I used to get my forms at University of MI's prosthetic clinic, hope I still can.  I'll give them a quick call and see what they have to say.

Hi, I have UHC & live in a town where there are no in-network providers. A local prosthetic store sent a form to UHC to get an exception & they approved it.

Perhaps there is a local store that can do the same for you.

    Good luck.

When I called they said there are no in-network providers.  Just to be safe, the store I went to sent in for pre-approval. I got two forms and two bras. I know all plans are not the same, but why not see if you can have them send the paperwork through for you?

Boy, that sounds pretty sneaky....Insurance companies are reqiured by law to cover bras and prosthetics. To have a contract with a place that does not sell them seems like a sneaky way to get out of covering your prosthetics. If that place does not carry them, then I would think they would almost have to let you get them somewhere else. I sure hope you can get an exception so they cover them. If they don't isn't there some gov't agency that regulates insurance companies that you could contact?

As if having cancer, losing our breasts, etc etc wasn't enough, we have to deal with rotten insurance agencies as well....

I wish you quick and easy sucess to get your breastforms.

    hi,

I was also looking for a provider in network for United Health.  I believe most of the providers are individuals and not prosthetic retailers. Here is the name of a woman in Carrolton, Ga who is in the United Health network:  Faye Thomsob

678-796-1800. Have not used her yet.

Quite remarkable really....as if there were not plenty of women with this need.

United covered 100% of my bras/forms, no co-pay or deductible. So when you FINALLY find a provider, I hope the same is true for you. :-)
