I filed complaint with medical board

Options

I just want to put this out there and urge others to do same.

I filed complaint with medical board against 2 radiologists that had oppurtunity to dx my BC much earlier. Board just sent the verdict. They aren't going to do anything. But I really just wanted the board and these doctors to be aware.

in 2009 I went back for diagnostic mammo and US. I still remember that doc had his US wand pointed at my right breast-right on what would be my BC-he said "Its nothing"  I knew nothing of BC then. I should have gotten second opinion. should have gotten someone to put needle in it. I just got the hell out of there. So releaved so scared I had BC.

Next year went to different facility. was lured with there promise of some kind of cushion thing on the torture device. That doctor didn't even request a f/u US. he just sent letter in mail saying it was negative. Later I read his report and he talked about that thing.

I have heard of this happening to other women. We need to let the medical board know this is NOT OK!! Please file a complaint against your doctors. all you do is go to medical board website in your state. I printed out form and sent it in. about month later a nurse investigator spoke with me on phone. I had to sign release for them to have all my records. then it goes up against board for review. this is a long processs. I think I started it back in august. and just got letter yesterday.

I don't expect anything to happen to these docs. But they need to be aware of what they aren't doing right. they should have put a needle in it.

turns out my first doc was only out of school 2 years. and the other doc I heard through grapevine was later fired from that other hosp. He must have really screwed up to be fired.

I've been to a lawyer also. but this kind of thing is difficult to prove. the lawyer advised me not to talk about this on public forum. so I've never talked about htis much on here. It has taken me a lot of time to get over this anger with these docs. filing this was a major step for me.

Fredntan - good for you. I think the first time there's any kind of complaint, doctors and other professionals tend to be given the benefit of the doubt unless it's really egregious. Even though there may not be action this time, what you've done is set the stage so that the next time there's a complaint, they are less likely to get the benefit of the doubt.  Sometimes that's all you can do.

And who knows if your pending complaint had something to do with what happened to the guy who was fired.  Maybe there'd been other complaints prior to yours, so when yours came along, it was part of a pattern and it finally cost him that benefit of the doubt.

Bumping this up. If there are more stories like mine. I urge you to file complaint like I did. If enough of uscomplain maybe they will stop delaying dx. On the one hand if I was dx at earlier stage maybe I wouldnt be so deligent about reoccurance of this beast.

So maybe that asshole did me a favor

One reason I was so appalled when I read your story and so pleased that you filed a complaint is that my mom died of b/c 33 years ago because she believed her doctor when he told her not to worry about that lump she found - he said he could tell by feel that it wasn't cancer and that she was worrying herself for nothing.  He never referred her to a specialist and no biopsy was ever done.  This despite the fact he knew her older sister had been dx with b/c several years earlier.  By the time my mom was properly dx she was advanced Stage IV and only lived a short time. It took me a long time to get over the anger - I was only 24 when my mom died.

I hope that doctors still aren't doing things like that, but as your case shows, biopsies are still not being done when they should be.   Good for you for not just letting it go.
