I feel devastated and survivors guilt. This man new me better than anyone! Saw him weekly during my 3 year battle with cancer. I miss him deeply and am crying hard. My hubby doesn't understand and thinks I am being over dramatic. Any advice please will help.

I'm sorry to read this. I can imagine how important this doctor was to you. Your husband can't understand.

Your continued recovery is very important so don't rule out finding another good psych for ongoing care.

Wishing you well and hoping others here have insights that will help you.

nanna I had a friend have the exact same thing happen to him and he was devastated. He came to a group to work it through and found a new psychiatrist after a couple of false starts.   The hardest thing for him was he was working on abandonment issues and then one day his Doc tells him they are going to need to stop. So hard and so difficult for others to understand.

You will need support throughout treatment so finding your helpers is important. Perhas they will be able to help you through this grief.

    Hugs Ginger

    That is some rotten luck.

Regarding the survivors guilt, ask yourself what he would want for you. He would want you to find help if you need it and live a fulfilling life, right?

I am so sorry to hear this. Can't imagine how devastated I'd be if cancer took my doctor - he is like a father to me. No advice, I'm afraid, other than to pound the pavement once again to see if you can do the nearly impossible: find another really good psychiatrist. A support group in the meatime might be helpful - perhaps a group made up of people who have your psychiatric dignosis?
