Hi all,

I understand that it had been approved for use by the FDA in the United States.

Any idea how long till it is available in the South Pacific?

    Hi Pae,

If it's anything like Herceptin, don't hold your breath.

I'm being really cynical I know but unless you can pay privately for the newer drugs they are not available to us.

My onc was really excited by one of the latest one and he told me if/when I needed it, which was not now, it would only cost me $7000.00 a time. I joked and said I had better find my DH a good corner spot down in town and see what he could make, cos there was no point me doing it!! I don't know which drug it was but one of the newer ones.

I'm going to ask my new onc what drugs are available in NZ publicly and which are only covered with private insurance, if any.

I would be really interested to know about TDM 1, I'm not Her2+ but it sounds like a great new move forward.

Australia does much better than us in the speed and availability of cancer drugs.

What is  TDM-1, is  it a super cancer drug and what kind of Breast cancer is it most suited to?

    Hi Midnight,

It is a new drug for Her2+ and is just been approved by the FDA in America. Is showing promise for those with stage 4 mets and have used other chemos.

Can't be used for Her2- as far as I know.

Always good to see new developments for treatment but as usual it can take some time to get to NZ.

    Moira.

There is a bit of delay.

The availability of Tykerb (Lapatanib) via public health was relatively quick.

    I hope it's the same with TDM-1.

Fortunately, Tykerb is doing its job for me. If it stops working, I am hoping that TDM-1 will be available via public health.

    Keeping the faith : )

Thank you, very much,  i did not have chemo, so do not really know  much about chemo drugs, lets hope it is quickly brought down under, so kiwis have the benefit.  will it be mainly for BC mets or other mets as well or other  cancer primary tumours?
