Stage 4 breast cancer - 5 Brain Mets discovered

Options

Hi All

I am 49 years of age, from Cape Town, South Africa. Originally diagnosed in 2007 with Stage 2 breast cancer. Single mastectomy performed, followed by Chemo and Radiation.

I was clear for 4 years, until lesions in my lungs were found in 2011. Oncologist started me on Docetaxel and Herceptin, which helped for about a year. 2 weeks ago, after an MRI, we found 5 mets in the brain. Biggest one being around 3cm.

I have since started WBR, of which I have 5 more sessions to go for. Feeling ok, just really tired. Oncologist suggests Femara and Tykerb after the WBR.

Anyone else have a similiar history? Not much discussion boards or info here in Cape Town.

Staying positive and fighting hard!

Regards

    Momiena, welcome to Breastcancer.org.

We're sorry that you're dealing with this worry, but we're glad you found such a wonderful community for information and support.

Until more members post with their own experiences, the main Breastcancer.org site has useful information that may reassure you, in the article Femara and Tykerb Combo Better Than Femara Alone for Metastatic Hormone-Receptor-Positive, HER2-Positive Cancers. We hope you find it helpful.

Momiena - Welcome - so sorry that you are having to deal with more mets. However, you have definitely found a wonderful place for real life information, encouragement and support.

Hoping that you continue to feel well throughout treatment and that those mets are knocked back to nothing!
