April25:
I cannot express how grateful I am that you took the time to write all of that to me! I am having such a weak moment that I am crying! This cancer thing just has brought us all together!
I dont know the HER2. How I find that out? I am ER/PR + both 90%
-
Musogirl -- Ugh... we all spend WAY too much time at hospitals and doctors' offices, don't we? But, hmm...! I really hope your docs are just not great communicators, but are super-good at what they do, anyway!
mustlovepoodles -- So much going on...! Sorry you are facing so much. Hugs!
keepwalking -- Yay for for the good Oncotype score and no chemo!!!!
octogirl -- Yes, trusting your BS is very important! --I was really happy with mine. I knew he was very good and I trusted him to do everything he could to leave me as whole and well as possible, and I really do think he did a fantastic job!
sloan -- Congrats on finishing rads! That's big!
-
The teaching hospital is my second home now. Going back for second re-incision in two weeks.
-
Marijen,
HUGS!
-
jersey I agree with Peggy. And I will say stay off dr Google. When I was first diagnosed I only read the lumpectomy & the TN boards. Info is good, too much can be overwhelming.
As for worrying and weight loss, take care of you for your family. And they will take care of you. Accept help whenever and from whomever. People will show you their kindness and be willing to let them do for you. And I will say that from dx to surgery I lost about 7-10lbs. I worried so much I wasn't sleeping either. I finally accepted the prescription for Xanax that my pcp suggested. It will get better when you have a plan. Deep breaths.
-
marjen sorry about the reexcision. I also had one.
-
Renee...hi and welcome to the lounge. I know all of this is very scary but once you get a plan in place things start to get easier. Since your asking for opinions mine would be to go for the LX and Penn sounds like the right choice based on what you know right now. If things turn out to be more than pure DCIS you can always get more aggressive.
Sloan..congrats on finishing rads!
I just had another 3 month follow-up today and everything looks good. I'm not having any problems so they said we could push it to 6 months. Yay!!!
Peggy and Poodles....just curious since you don't have gyns do you still get PAPS? Or do you just get them from your family doctors?
Hope everyone else is doing well.
-
Nash, I haven't had a pap in several years (4 or 5) but my family doctor did mine when I got them. He was a true GP. I was really sorry when he retired. He was an osteopath and had the best hands. He even managed to move my son around when I was pregnant and very miserable. He did it all. And he was an excellent diagnostician. I was with him for 45 years. Blew through another PCP who decided to go concierge and that didn't fit the budget.I now have a woman PCP whom I really like. Then when I move to Spokane next summer I get to find a new PCP, MO, RO, BS. Sigh.
HUGS!
-
Nash, I get my Paps from my internist. She has me on the 3 year plan, since my Paps always come back normal. That will change, I'm sure, when I see a new GYN. Since it's not an emergency, I'm going to ask my BS for a referral, I think, since I will see her in about 10 days.

Sorry to just be lurking these days...I'm just so tired. Chemo #3 was 2 days ago. I tried to work from home today but finally had to give up--no concentration. DH tried taking me out to lunch, but nothing tastes right. Pizza is about the only thing that appeals and DH is getting tired of that. We tried to go to Walmart and do a little Christmas shopping. Thankfully, I'm about 95% done. Still, it was hard. We finally gave up. DH ran over and got some milk while I went to the car. Just so tired. Came home and napped on the couch for 2-1/2 hours, woke up and warmed up some leftovers. I'm still so tired. Sure hope I'll be able to sleep tonight after that big nap!
-
Aw, Poodles, I'm sorry. I'm sure you'll sleep tonight. It sure sucks that nothing tastes right - pizza is not a bad one to have taste right. Does wine or Coke taste good? My DIL couldn't stand anything cold.
HUGS!!!!!
-
Rennee, I think with DCIS you don't get tested for HER2. I agree with the others that conservative is the way to go . They can always take more but you can't get it back once it's gone.
Most likely what you feel under your arm is from the biopsy. Unless your cancer is invasive it's unlikely to be in your nodes.
Happy birthday to your daughter.
-
Peggy, wine doesn't taste good, but Diet Coke and gingerale are nectar of the gods, for some reason. And the Diet Coke has to be a fountain Coke, not out of the can or bottle. So picky. It's like I'm pregnant all over again, LOL.
-
Oh lordy, Poodles, not pregnant! At least something tastes good to drink. Fountain coke? That's hard to get unless you're eating out. Ginger ale is always good for what ails you. Here we prefer Vernor's. Doubt you can get it, which is too bad.
HUGS!!!
-
Thank you PontiacPeggy!
-
Vernors is the best gingerale!
-
Marijen - So sorry you have to have a second re-excision! I guess you are pretty familiar with the drill by now, but it is still not a favorite thing to do. I pray all goes well this time and that you will be done with surgery!
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Renee, i hope you are able to have a relaxing weekend - as someone said, try to put this all in a box and free your mind to relax - there will be plenty of time next week to take it out again and explore options.
HUGS!
-
Molly, oh HO!!! Someone who knows the good stuff! Vernors is pretty region-specific. You must have wandered here sometime.
HUGS!
-
Good Morning, Ladies!
I read all of your posts! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!! It was a down night for me last night.
I am going to tuck the "C" word away & enjoy my daughters 14th birthday this weekend.
Mustlovepoodles:
you are in my thoughts & prayers! {{hugs}}
Remember we are ALL Diamonds & this can't break us!
I need to repeat this to myself when having my moments.
-
Renee, we ALL have those moments, hours and days when it is all so overwhelming. That's just one of the reasons we come here - to find sanity and some peace of mind when ours is falling apart from the stress. You have it right. We ARE diamonds!
Happy Birthday to your DD! Enjoy the day. Live in the moment.
HUGS!
-
Renee...happy birthday to your DD! 14 is so sweet....enjoy! The first couple of months for me were the hardest. Once I finished all my treatments things settled down and gradually got back to "normal". The holidays are a tough time to be dealing with this too. If you not taking anything like Xanax to help you thru the tough times I totally recommend it. It helped me get over the hurdle and now I don't need it anymore.
Life is sweet!
-
Poodles-so sorry about the chemo SE's. The altered taste thing would get better for me usually day 12-15 and then, it would be time for the next one soon after. It really helped to keep saltines everywhere and even when I didn't want to eat- a few saltines would keep me from being nauseous. Rest, rest, rest...naps are great. I actually was on a schedule like a child...up in the morning at 9:00, nap after lunch and bed at 9pm. (A morning nap, too, sometimes.)
Renee- the anti-anxiety medicine is a great help especially if you aren't sleeping/eating...short term help!
-
Renee, echoing the suggestions for anti-anxiety meds. Sometimes you just can't talk yourself off of the ledge, and then the anxiety feeds on itself and you feel worse and worse. You'll feel such relief if you can interrupt that cycle.
-
Peggy, I grew up on Vernors here in So Cal. My mom's favorite.
-
Molly, that required investment spending I'd have thought
At any rate, it's darned good, especially for nausea.
HUGS!
-
ugh, My temp is 101.1. Had chemo 12/1/15, so I'm waiting for the MO to call. DH thinks she's going to tell me to take Tylenol and stay home. *I* will not be surprised if we make a trip to the ER in a little bit.
-
Well, sh*t, Poodles. You don't need this. I hope DH is right and Tylenol is all you need. Have you taken anything yet for it?
Cooling thoughts.
HUGS!
-
Bluedog....what a great way to describe it...breaking the cycle is the key!
-
Poodles...well, damn....you have def been thru it lately....flying healing mercies your way!. Please keep us posted as you can.
-
mustlovepoodles what was your last neutrophil (baby white) count? If it's low, you don't want to mask a fever. my MO said do not take fever reducing stuff if white blood count is low. You might be doing an emergency room trip. Hang in there, and hoping for the best.
