Pomogranate fruit or juice

Options

I have heard several good things about pomogranate being a good anti oxidant and BC survivors need to take at least 2 glasses or 1 fruit of pomogranate every day. It will prevent recurrence. I am ER+PR+ and found some data online that pomogranate is not very good for my status. Any experience or views? I am yet to talk to my nutritionist. Thanks.

I can only repeat what every onco has told me.  There is no food that prevents BC.  Period.

    Just eat a healthy diet.

I've heard about vegetables in the cabbage family, mushrooms, etc.

But apparently there is no real proof or they would be telling us.

I can't imagine that a study has proven that a fruit or vegetable can prevent recurrence and they would keep it a secret.

I love pomegranates and their juice. They are delicious and healthy but they won't prevent recurrence of breast cancer. Enjoy the juice or the fruit but don't count on it to prevent cancer.

there is no harm in drinking pom juice.  Everything should be done in moderation.  dr. will vouch for medications because they are trained to say so...conventional therapy def. saves or prolongs life.....no there is no doubt about that.  but there is alot of to be said for eating a varied and balanced diet the way mother nature intended.

There are so many cases of positive thinking....using diet to cure or remain in remission.  I would a little more skeptical of expensive herbs and supplements without adequate research but I think a cancer victim should definitely eat a varied diet, fresh, organic, and avoid processed foods as much as possible.  this should apply to anyone in general - cancer victim or not.

before my breast cancer I was very skeptical of diet modificiations....Hey if something is not necessarily helpful but not harmful I'm open to trying it.  There can't be anything harmful about eating green leafy veggies, varied fruits....so cancer should definitely be a wake up call for healthy eating habits.

Agreed with the comments above.  There is no magic cure.  There are studies, for example, the Chinese Breast Cancer Survival Study, that have shown that eating cruciferous vegetables and soy reduce cancer recurrence.  However, these studies are based on self-reporting and do not necessarily adjust for other factors.  For example, those people who have a diet high in vegetables may be wealthier and therefore have better access to health care.  Until there is a randomised study, there will be no proof.  This is the same thing with aspirin.  It certainly can't hurt though!

Right, no magic cure, and I also read that pomegranates are contra-indicated if you are taking tamoxifen, along with grapefruit and grapefruit juice, benedryl, and most SSRIs except for a few.

When I hear that DIM will prevent recurrence,, or some other kind of food or supplement, I make sure first it won't interfere with my tamoxifen. I want that stuff to work.
