Hi ladies, i just wondered if anyone has tried the 5 and 2 diet, eat normally for 5 days, 500 cals for 2 days, i have looked into this diet, it seems to have a lot of health benefits. I have tried it now for two weeks, i must say i do feel better in myself also i have lost a couple of pounds, there is a book written by Dr Mosely which is very interesting, explains all about this diet. I like the idea of eating what i like for 5 days its much easier than watching cals all the time.x

Kaza, I have been considering it, because it seems to have advantages both for preventing cancer recurrence and for reversing insulin resistance (which I have).

Until now, I was too thin, and the docs were sort of yelling at me to put on some weight. So I put off trying the diet. But now that I have gained a couple of pounds, it may be time to try it.

What do you typically eat on the fasting days?

Hi Momine, i did consult my GP before starting this diet. I do not have a lot of weight to loose the couple i have lost, just mean my jeans fit a bit better!!!!!

I feel it may be best to see your GP before starting this diet as i did, just to make sure all is well. Anyway what do i eat on fasting day........cereal with nuts and chopped banana, and chopped prunes with semi skimmed milk for breakfast black coffee. No lunch maybe an apple.          2 hard boiled eggs and a very large salad for my dinner in the evening this is a typical day, salmon salad in the evening is also nice. I drink plenty of water, black coffee, tea throughout the day. I feel is your calorie intake on non fasting days is higher than 2000 cals you will not loose weight on this diet. A calorie book is very handy also so we  are able to plan meals for fasting days. Hope this helps let me know how you get on.....sending you all good wishes xx

Kaza, thanks. The article I saw said that you could only eat vegetables on the fasting days, which sounded quite challenging. Maybe I will get the book. Most days I do not eat 2000 calories, but something a bit less. That could be adjusted though, I guess.

For keeping track, fitness pal is really useful.
