Questions regarding another problem

Options

Hi everyone -- I am hoping that someone can possibly help. It has been 11 months since my lumpectomy and over 7 months since I have finished my rads. I am currently on Tamoxifen -- oh joy :-) and now I am experiencing very apparent nipple flaking in breast that had lumpectomy -- it is not red or itching or oozing just obvious flaking of the whole nipple. I have used lotion and it does not help. My GP scheduled bilateral mammograms with ultrasound. The radiologist said to me that there is a very dense area in my right breast and he referred me to my breast surgeon. He also mentioned that it could be from the radiation treatments (from 8 months ago?) or possibly Paget's but he is not too familiar with Paget's. Anyone have a similar experience or any advice. I am a bit nervous here :-) Thank you for listening. :-)

HI, I'm glad that you're being looked at. I will share, I had a similar problem for about 1 year post radiation. It cleared up but did take a really long time.  I'm hoping your issue is nothing troubling and more like mine just the skin taking time to heal and regenerate.

    Dear Bevin,

Thank you for your reply. I am hoping that my issue is just part of the healing process. No one tells you of these little things that can possibly happen and I find myself wondering okay whats next...
Thank you again for sharing. I feel better knowing that someone else has had something similar happen and it is just part of healing and regeneration. Did you have skin issues during your radiation treatment?

    Hi Lastchild13,

I know, there are so many little things that happen that you don't expect.  I was surprised when my radiated breast was not the same color as it was pre-rads.  Not the skin as of course that turned read, but the Nipple area turned white and not the brown color it was.  It's just now starting to get color back .  My only issues with brast skin and radiation was flaking and redness, tenderness.  It was a little burned but never had any open sore or other issues some have. I was very diligent about using appropriate creames afterwards and before bed. I was very very fatigued but overall I think my skin held up pretty well.

    Dear bevin,

Wow your skin did hold up well for the radiation --- I used the aloe and creams religiously too :-) Fatigue was definitely something I had a lot of too! I did not have any flaking , peeling or open sores/skin issues. I just got a tan on part of my breast (nothing changed on the nipple) and it did feel like part of my breast was a little burned towards the end of the treatment but it still just looked tan -- very weird. Although my breast is still sensitive at times and I do still have some pain/soreness which my BS told me is common. Do you still have any pain or soreness?
