How Long Did It Take For Rads to Ease Your Bone Mets Pain

My mom is in excrutiating pain because of the large bone met on the clavicle and is unable to lift her arm to even get dressed properly or drive. She starts rads (5 treatments) on Thursday and she's wondering how soon she might start to feel better. I know it varies, but one of the oncs made it seem like she wouldn't feel better for a month or two and mentioned that approx. 30 percent of patients experience and increase in pain at first before they start to feel better. How many treatments before you started to feel better?

Several weeks. I had several painful mets. The first couple weeks of rads were very difficult. I threw up after sessions because they were near my digestive area. I had 20 sessions, one each day, 5 days a week. I think week three I felt better and began to walk again.

Once its done, thoug, the pain was gone and over time I got myself back.

I'm sorry she will have to go through this. One day at a a time.

I'm having mine now -- six sessions down, six to go, all in my spine.  I wasn't having a lot of spinal pain before the rads, but right now they're making it worse.  I'm told they should help -- eventually.
