Praying to be stage II or III
Hi Ladies!
My journey started with surgery on 1/4 to remove what was 80% (chance) on ultrasound exam benign. Then after surgery (excisional biopsy) they were 95% sure I was fine! Then it started getting worse from there... 7 days later, confirmed IDC. Pathology said "at least stage 1c."
MRI showed two other spots "light up" then w/ second look ultrasound those were confirmed too... look very suspicious but tiny 2mm and 5mm. During that ultrasound they asked if I wanted them to scan my nodes. I said yes. Multiple nodes looked abnormal.
Had fine needle aspiration of one node which confirmed there is cancer in the nodes. ICK! I am just praying so hard that this doesn't turn out to be metastatic!! I need to be here a loooooong time. I'm 36 and otherwise healthy and feel I can do ANYTHING but the highest stage. I'm really nervous 15% of the time and relying on God, staying positive and FAITH FAITH FAITH
Double mastectomy 2/15 with all the nodes coming out on my left side because of this one positive node.
So far I am IDC and DCIS ER/PR+ Her2-, grade 1 mitoic rate 1
Anyone start with a simliar story to mine??
XOXO

There are many women here including myself who have had a relatively minor breast cancer just morph into a scary diagnosis as tests go on. I am sure many of them will come on to assure you this is fairly routine--unfortunately.
I think your grade 1 and mitotic rate of 1 are very favorable, as is your ERPR positive and Her 2 negative.
When I had my surgery ten years ago the standard was many lymph nodes taken out--about 25-- because my sentinel node was positive. I now have mild lymphedema, which, while mild, is quite annoying at times.I have noticed here on the boards lately, many women in this situation are just having one node taken out and letting chemo and radiation do the work on the rest. You might want to inquire about this to your surgeon to see if you are a good candidate for this less invasive node surgery. From what I have read the success rates are the same.
Stick with us and remember you have a path report many women here would regard as very treatable, very encouraging.

Hearme, welcome, and sorry that you have to join us. It was clear from the get-go that my cancer was quite advanced. Everybody was relieved that it had not already metastasized.
But others here have been through what you are going through and I hope someone can offer some advice. Meanwhile, you are added to my prayers.

My tests went from DCIS to "just a bit" of IDC to 8.5cm tumor and 3 + nodes. You are in the worst part of this journey right now. Get your diagnosis and arm yourself with your treatment plan and you will feel much better. Hang out here, we'll help you through it!

hearmeroar..this is such a overwhelming time waiting for the diagnosis...we all know the fear!! Please keep us up-dated and let us know how your surgery goes the 15th. Once you know your diagnosis and treatment plan it is less overwhelming. The shock of it all is replaced with determination to get through treatment...which you will!! You'll find wonderful, caring woman here who will help you along this BC journey.

Unfortunately, this is all too familiar for me....I was all but guaranteed to be "stage two"...ended up having the Ugly C all over the place, nodes/auxiliary/on the nerve/on chest wall...got my report and they just kept going!! I was like, Whoa, hold on...stage three...stage three c????? But, you have more tests I have to wait for until I'm given the actual diagnosis??? When that call came, the earth stopped spinning and I had a hard time breathing. I honestly didn't know anything anymore...long conversation edited to tell you, I cried Happy tears to be diagnosed at Three C...
I've had a few years now to look at what it means...why would it be so important to me to be a lower stage? I feel this disease does its deed...would I have been treated so aggressively had I been a lower stage?? There's a lot I could say but its sensitive, every journey is different, and I can only speak through my experience. Staging to me (outside of treatment plans and technical stuff of course) has become a perception to me, not as much a reality. I don't believe in statistics, or luck...i know that none of us are guaranteed another minute.
So, yes...its frigging crazy to think three c was desirable!! But really, when it all boils down, we do what we have to. We do what is right for us. We take it one step at a time, build our sisterhood, walk our walk and live our lives.
If you like, pm me any time. Im sorta a "tell it like it is" gal LOL and I'd be happy to share any information you'd like to know about. I'm just careful not to type anything that could be offensive, ya know?
I wish the very best for you. I will send a prayer out, warm thoughts...just be easy on yourself until you get the final report.
((((Hugs)))) -
Hearmeroar....I had biopsy with 2+ spots on breast....then MRI light up so more biopsy....more cancer in breast as well as lymph nodes.....my BS only took out the first layer of nodes at time of bilat.....I think many of us end up with different pathology after surgery than at time of biopsy...I think I went from stage 2 at time of biopsy to stage 3A....
Good luck with your surgery later this week.....keep coming here for support
