Treatment in question need help

Options

Thought everything was a go. We were doing Neo, surgery, Rad - I was going in Monday for a port - NOW I have to wait because Doctor thinks I may not be a candidate for chemo. I have previous health conditions. Could really use some stats right now and encouragment.

Luvinmylife, Why does it always seem like we are left to worry about this crap over a weekend? Unfortunately, with the type of treatment we go through, these delays and changes in course are common. So sorry I don't have ready stats for you. My breast surgeon warned me right away that there would be "bumps in the road" throughout the process. Knowing that it is a common theme probably wont make the waiting any easier, but you are not alone. Hang out here with us until you can get a handle on the game plan. ((( Hugs)))

    OK thanks.

I'd really like to hear from some others that may have had rads and surgery but no chemo.

It's hard for you to compare yourself to anyone else who may have had rads but not chemo, because breast cancer is such an individual disease.  So, you might hear from someone who has a completely different diagnosis and did rads and surgery and was done with treatment, but it might not apply to your individual situation.

It's best to call your oncologist's office, and schedule an appointment to sit down and discuss this with him, so you understand fully the risks he's avoiding, any new risks that avoidance is creating, and what your other options are.  There's no single simple answer.

Please let us know what happens.

Luv, I had rads and surgery but no chemo. You don't list your hormonal and Her status, or if you've had the Oncotype Test so it's hard to compare my situation with yours. I had a low Oncotype score, am post-menopausal and have a low Grade, so it was a no-chemo decision. But all these factors go into determining whether one gets chemo.

She is not asking whether her diagnosis determines whether or not she has chemo.

She is asking if there are others here who needed/would have been given chemo and then doctors determined they couldn't give it because of their other health conditions.

She seems to be asking what are her stats for survival without chemo. First, none of us can really give her that information. It's hard even for one's doctor to make that prediction. Second, to even give an educated guess would depend on her complete pathology, which isn't provided. I may be wrong but that is my interpretation of her post.

Thanks everyone for speaking up. It was both actually. You both are right. So thank you for tring to help me out here. LOL it's a mess no??!   I think the onocologist will be able to set things right. He's the one that feels I may not be able to have chemo. BS is the one that was pushing for it and I'm wondering if she' involved in the clinical trial for it. Anyway - she's not happy that I may not be doing chemo. However looking at the stats I have found, it doesn't look as though chemo is the be all end all for a lot of cancers. Some it certainly necessary for and others it really depends. Grade 3 doesn't mean you have to have chemo any more than having lymph nodes involved. If chemo prior to surgery worked so well, then radiation after wouldn't be needed and vice versa.

I'll keep everyone informed as soon as I know! Thank you!
