My husband and I just began taking care of his 84 year old grandma. 5 years ago she had her2neu breast cancer. No chemo and went in remission and now she has the same cancer in her liver and lung. She had 1 chemo and herceptin treatment a week ago and we have stayed with her for 2 weeks now. Her nose is starting to bleed alittle and we just have no idea what to expect. We have 4 kids we are also trying to takecare of. Can someone please help us understand how she is feeling and how this will progress?

What an amazing amount of stress you must have currently with taking care of everyone!! You may want to read our section on metastatic breast cancer to help you understand some of the basics: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/types/recur_metast. There is alot of great information there!

We are thinking about  you, and your family, and hope that you will find information and support here!

I wouldn't presume to know what she may be feeling. Each of us is unique so don't know what her experience will be. I'm sure she is frightened. It's good that she has you. Do you have medical power of attorney? That may become crucial at her age. And it will give you the ability to ensure inclusion in her treatment if she wants that.

No othe family members to pitch in?

So sorry you have so much stress now and I wish your grandma peace and little pain.
