Small tumor and MD Anderson

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has been to MDA?  I am scheduled to go there in 2 weeks, and I am looking forward to their help and advice.

I had a 2mm ILC no nodes, ER+, PR+, and Her2-, clean margins.   The MO here (I have seen 3) all tell me the use of Tamoxifen is up to me and since I still have a uterus I am concerned as to what to do.  I had a BLMX and small chance of recurrence.  I am hoping MDA can guide me a little more on the use of Tam.

    I haven't been there but i keep thinking of going there.  Why not go for the best.  I think you're very smart.  Let us know how it goes.  

    I did call them and spoke for a long time with a wonderful man.  They really sound like they know what they're doing.

    You will be so glad you went to MDA. Almost everyone you encounter will be positive and encouraging. They definitely know what they are doing and the facilities are wonderful. Good luck!

    Thank you Gladness.  I will let you know how it works out.  Could you tell me how long you had to stay if you went there.  They say 5-7 working days but I have had all the test already.

    My mother was just diagnosed with lobular breast cancer yesterday, and we are still waiting to get a full description of the type/degree of cancer after a biopsy on Monday.  Once we have the needed information, we are headed to either MDA or John Hopkins.  My father had a wonderful outcome at MDA over five years ago, but John Hopkins is closer to family.  Do you know whether one hospital is more specialized for lobular breast cancer?  I would be interested to hear about treatment/ doctors at either facility.

    Hi CaringDaughter,

    I was at MD Anderson last week.  They really are great at answering all of your questions and offering the best treatment options.  I also have ILC, I also have an 2nd opinion scheduled with an oncologist at John Hopkins.  I had a bi lateral masectomy (the other breast was healthy) but at MDA they told me that it would bring my recurrence rate down even lower. And I did very well with the surgeries.  I think you will do well at either hospital.

    Each hospital treats LBC.  Did you find out the specifics on her diagnosis, yet?
