Due to chronic joint pain issues my onco had me stop Tamox. about 3 monthst ago. SInce then I have developed an engorged painful burning sensation in the cancer treated breast around encompassing the areola and nipple(which is slighlty retracted due to radiation). The tissue feels thickened and is quite painful. IT feels similar to when I was engorged when nursing my kids. Has anyone had this experience ? COuld it be caused by the change in hormones from stopping tamox. ? I contacted my onco's office but have yet to get a return call to tell me what i should do.

feel free to email me directly : bluewillowskys@hotmail.com

I stopped Tamoxifen back in September 2012 after four years because my memory was getting so bad. I couldn't think of words I wanted to use while in conversation with people and my mind would blank out while doing activities I'd done for years. Now that I've stopped, my breasts hurt like when I was pregnant. I had DCIS in the left breast with a lumpectomy, and a lumpectomy in the right breast at the same time to remove a fibroid. While on the Tamoxifen, I had no sensitivity like this in my breasts, but now, it is quite bad. The areola on the right, as well as the nipple just hurt. I've never had that before. I have not called my onc yet, but now at least I can say I'm not the only one. I don't want to go back on the Tamoxifen, but it has crossed my mind. My onc would think I've completely lost my mind if I asked to go back on it!

Im so glad its not just me.... i had such horrible joint pain i dont want to go back to tamox., but my fear was i may be developing a secondary cancer with this pain.... im glad to hear this may be very normal...not happy about it but ...hopefully normal. i noticed this past month it was worse around the time of my cycle...so im going to pay attention this time around and see if thats the same. But the pain at the scar site is there almost all the time...i still have lots of tightness and pain in my right pectoral area when i try to extend my arm upwards. I did therapy but i still have it... i see onco in march for my yrly checkup/mammo. So going to ask about the breast pain and find out if their are any options for lipofilling type things to fill the dent where the lumpectomy was done...
