Any Stage IV Metsters in Mississauga or Hamilton?
My mom likely has mets (waiting on more tests but onc is pretty sure based on scans). She will be doing her treatment in Mississauga, though she now lives closer to Hamilton. She doesn't really know anyone else who has had breast cancer, let alone mets and it would be nice to get her in touch with someone she can talk to once in a while. She is NOT internet savvy at all, so I thought I would look for someone who she may run into during treatment -- a buddy of sorts. If you are in the area and feel up to making a new (and very sweet) friend, please let me know.

I live in Mississuaga as well. My mom has been diagnosed for recurrent metastatic breast cancer one year ago. Now she is having one shot of Faslodex each month. And she is planning to visit me for 1-2 months (She is not Canaidan resident). During her stay in Canada, how can she get the prescription for Faslodex in Canada? Can I make a appointment with oncologist for my mom without family doctor referral? (Her doctor back to home can provide the medical report and prove she is under medicine of Faslodex.)
I don't know where to start. I hope my mom can continue to have monthly shot of Faslodex during her stay in Canada but don't know who or which orgainzation I can reach to understand the procedure of getting the prescription in Canada for a visitor. If anyone has the information, please give me a reply. Much appreciated.

SW2013, I am not sure that your mom will be able to get her shots while here unless she is going to pay out of pocket which will be VERY expensive. Even if she obtains travel insurance before travelling out here, they don't cover existing conditions. (We have been trying to get insurance for my mom to travel and cannot find one that will cover any cancer-related issues while she is away)
She should speak to her oncologist about it. A doctor here will not likely be able to do it without her having to pay quite a bit of money since OHIP doesn't apply to her.

Canadagirl, thank you so much for your advices! We have been paying the Faslodex shots out of our pocket now. The cost for this medicine even a little bit cheaper here. The thing we don't know is how to find a doctor here to provide a prescription. The family doctor I am visiting told me that I might need a specailist to provide that kind of presecrption. I kind of doubt it. Do I have to find a oncologist here to give that kind of prescription since it's cancer related?
