Hi. Just wondering if any of you ladies were on the pill when your lump was detected? I was on the pill for 2 years leading up to my TNBC fast growing lump! Renae

    HelloRenae64,

I have been convinced for a long time that there is a connection between the birth control pill and the development of breast cancer. There have been discussions about this on the forum in the past. I am sure you will find information about this on the internet as well.

Come and join us on the UK TNBC thread if you like.

    Best Wishes, Sylvia.

I have been on the pill for a long time. I have an ovarian cyst and the pill kept it small and manageable. I tried to go off it but too many problems. so I was on the pill when I found my lump.

I was on the pill for about 10 years, but not on it when BC was found. I did take a lot of estrogen for fertility problems. My doctors seem pretty sure that estrogen plays some kind of role in the development of TNBC, but no one is sure what exactly.

    Minxie,

I just read your post about how your Doc thinks estrogen plays a role in the development of TNBC.  With his theory, will he be prescribing Tamoxifen for you?

    Hello everyone.

I have been reading the interesting posts about the pill and thought I would just add my bit.

We cannot assume that because we were diagnosed with various kinds of breast cancers with triple negative receptors, that the birth control pill did not play a part.

We have to remember that tumours mutate and my oncologist told me that although I had IDC with triple negative receptors, that it did not mean the cancer had started out as such and that it could have mutated.

My own thoughts are that once we start taking any kind of pills we do not know what they are doing to our bodies, except that they are interfering with natural processes.

Some research shows that long term use of the drug Tamoxifen can in fact cause TNBC.

I feel concerned that in the UK it has been to prescribe Tamoxifen to healthy women over the age of thirty, who are high risk for developing breast cancer, as a preventive. This represents about 2% of women and would, I presume, include those with BRCA1 and BRCA2. I hope women will be genetically tested before being prescribed Tamoxifen. This is a drug that has bad side effects, including blood clots and risk of ovarian cancer. What is this going to do to healthy women? What about research connecting long term use of Tamoxifen with the development of TNBC?

Recently I have read in a French magazine about terrible problems women who have taken third and fourth generation birth control pills are experiencing.

    Best wishes to all.

    Sylvia.

    Hello Renae.

    Thank you for your PM.

I did take the pill but only for a couple of years and then decided to stop as I started wondering what it could be doing to me. I did have dizziness while taking it.

I hope all is well with you and you are always welcome to post on my Calling all triple negative breast cancer patients in the UK where have some Australians posting.

    Best wishes.

    Sylvia xxxx
