Foot cramps HELP!!

Try the longer socks that pull up to almost the knees if you are having calf cramps. I did read that magnesium deficiency is a cause but my leg cramps mostly occur in the winter and only in the summer if aircon is too cool.
I do remember one time the cramps were so bad (prior to wearing socks) it was agonizing and I put my feet in hot water and had instant relief! So for me they are definitely brought on by the cold weather. Circulation obviously not the best.

I started Tamoxifen in November and have been dealing with the foot cramps as well. They hurt so badly, especially at night. I was having a rough enough time dealing with the night sweats with Tamoxifen, now this! I love all the suggestions will definitely be considering all of them!

Oh Man!! last night the cramps came back full force in the outside part of my calf up to my knee, any time I bent my knee my whole outside of my leg would cramp down to my ankle and foot... First time it ever brought me to tears...

Just thowing this out there. When I was anemic(Hbg of 9). So, not terribly anemic. I noticed an increase in cramping. Even my abdominals cramped. Also, if I'm really tired, the cramps are worse. That viscious cycle. Can't sleep because of the cramps....cramps get worse with lack of sleep.....

Hi GMA
I got terrible foot cramp - just once, fortunately - just after starting Arimidex. Read somewhere (can't remember where, sorry) that it might be due to not enough magnesium.
Started eating a few brazil nuts (full of magnesium) and other nuts and voila - cramps have gone.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

I have let go of gluten and this has helped me.

Day. My Onc Nutritionist gave me a list of foods to get those nutrients.. There were new guidelines out that stated overdoing the supplements can have an adverse effect on cancer patients.. They were finding, patients that take over the daily requirement of supplements actually helped the cancer grow.. So she keeps an eye out on what I take... I usually have warm feet because my chinese crested/whippet mix friend sleeps under my covers at my feet
. Cyborg, I have cut all the processed foods out of my diet and eat lean meats and veggies mostly.. Right now, I do have a few dried fruits for my magnesium and constipation from pain meds.
I am still having leg and foot cramps but they are not every night. I also have a hip issue and the pain doc told me not to be active and rest.. That might be the reason I'm not having as many - who knows??
Thanks for all your ideas - I am saving them on a new list.

Hi there GmaFoley-
When I get cramps usually on top of my shin or arch of foot, the thing that helps the most is drinking dill pickle juice. This trick came from my boys football experience, when they got cramps they drank the "juice"
turned out it was dill pickle juice.Hope you can find something that works for you.

Hi Trish, I heard that too and come to find out from one of my practioners its the vinegar in the juice.. He suggested a tablespoon of cider vinegar before meals.. It also helps with the digestion...I haven't tried it yet though.. Have a real hard time with vinegar and dill pickles - it causes my asthma to flare.. Have no clue why.

I used to have terrible leg cramps. One day I went online and typed in leg cramps. It said take calcium, magnesium, and potassium. I never have them anymore.
Being dehydrated will cause them too, so make sure to get enough fluids.
Blessings

hmm wonder if its the salt in the dill pickle vinegar. Heard cramps can be the result of lack of sodium. I know that living in really hot conditions above the 22nd parallel in Australia they advise taking salt tablets, what that would mean for people with high cholesterol I don't know.
