Hi ladies, I have a question about antidepressants and tamoxifen. I currently take Zoloft (taken 50mg for PMS) for several years. Now I am learning that it interferes w the tamoxifen. My MO recommended Effexor instead. But after reading about it I am not so sure? Any tips /suggestions on others that are safe to take? Right now I am weening off the Zoloft and Am going to see how it all goes without antidepressants. Especially since tamox has stopped periods so far (taken for 3 months) So far tamoxifen hasn't produced Any side effects for me.

Let me know your thoughts......

😃Kim

I take Zoloft 100mg. and Myomin which is an alternative aramatase inhibiter - no problem with this combination.

The issue with zoloft and tamoxifen is that zoloft inhibits a liver enzyme from converting tamoxifen into its active form in the body. I am in the same boat. Effexor is fine other than withdrawal symptoms if you are late taking it or miss a dose.

I take Effexor and used to take Zoloft. Effexor is fine but if I miss a day I get brain zaps. Feels like a jolt of electricity that goes right through your head! So you have to wean off of it if you are going to stop. I was going to wean off of it until I was diagnosed with bc. I decided I might be more depressed and need it so I have continued to take it.

I was just with my oncologist yesterday and he is going to put me on Tamox after radiation.  I also am already taking Lexapro for PMS and he was going to switch me to Effexor but after talking with the pharmacist and online, found that Lexapro is ok.
