Just need to complain about blue choice insurance

Omg! I just opened an invoice from the hospital where I ad surgery...holy cow! Not including the different surgeons bills...they sent a bill for approx $19k ..our insurance graciously(HA) paid $15 K and we are responsible for $5400. We pay an ungodly amount per month for our family of 5, me just 47, dh 44, kids, 15,13,11. Close to 3500... Damn! We should have just banked the cash and paid out of pocket - would have ended up paying less in the end! Grrrrrr

Insurance is one of those can't live with but can't live without scenarios. You pay huge amounts every month and you never get sick, it's kind of like gambling. I'm just thankful we have insurance otherwise I might as well file for bankruptcy.

Hey that's cheap compared to mine. I had bilateral skin/nipple sparing with delayed TRAM stayed in hospital 3 days. My hospital bill was 97,346.00! I thought to myself I hope that includes everything not just hospital stay but it was. Anyway I didn't have to come out the pocket for anything, thank goodness. It's crazy what they charge!

I recently went to my local hospital for an infusion of Abraxane. Had to be admitted for an outpatient procedure. Then went to the infusion center, a room with approx 12 chairs and one onc. Nurse to administer the drugs and watch to make sure you do ok on It. It took out an hour for the admittance part, then about three to get the drug. The bill arrived...$30,000!!! I almost fell over! No kidding $30.000! How can this be? It's a crazy thing. by the time they reduce it to what Ins will pay and we had already met deductible this year so we aren't paying anything. But why do they start out with these preposterous amounts? It makes no sense.

My doctor used to do all the infusion of chemo drugs. He has two oncology nurses and a room with about six chairs. I much prefer going there. However, the hospitals are now wanting to get into this and somehow the Ins companies seem to encourage this. I dont think my doctor ever charged more than like $4,000, depending on the drug. Now Ins doesn't want to pay him practically anything. They keep cutting down what they will pay a physician for these services, so that many oncologists are not doing it anymore. But why the Ins Co would think its okay for the hospital to bill $30,000 I truly can't figure out.

It is a nightmare when you see the bills, isn't it? I have Kaiser Permanente with a good plan provided by my employer. I never see a bill and only have $15. Co-pays on office visits and minimal co-pays on meds. No co-pays or deductibles on virtually anything else. I do realize how lucky I am considering all the tax I have had and will have.

Justjudie, my dentist told me decades ago that he bills higher to try to recover even his costs. I'm certain that many of these freakishly high bills include far more than our treatment and then are boosted in hopes of recovering what they hope for.

    It's a never ending cycle.

Well many people don't know this but the reason they charge so much is to cover the uninsured. They know they won't get paid the entire amount but hope to get as much as they can. My bill was over 97 thousand but they were pain a little over 15,000. I didn't have to pay anything but still that's a lot less than they charged.
