Pain in "good" breast??

Options

My Mom was 74 when she was diagnosed last year with IDC, Stage 1 (1.7 cms), Grade 3, ER+, PR+, HER-

She had a segmental mastectomy to remove the tumour in her left breast, did 3/4 rounds of chemo as well as radiation and is taking Tamoxifen. Life seems to be getting back to normal for her except she still gets tired rather quickly.

However, for the past several weeks she feels a tender area in her right breast. She does not feel a lump, there is no reddening or thickening of the skin etc and both her oncologist who has examined her twice and her surgeon cannot feel anything either.

Her first mammogram since her surgery is scheduled only in another 3 months. Any idea what this tenderness may be? I am trying not to get my mind into overdrive about this since her doctors can't seem to feel anything either...

I've been having pains in the good breast too.  I've also been examined several times my my surgeon and onco.

I have occasional pains under the good arm too.  It makes me crazy!

I wonder if these pains would have been ignored before the bc.  It's so hard to know what to get excited about.

So I've decided to just go into denial!

I have a spot where I feel pain in my good breast too. My onc said it's about where there are some glands that can become tender. He doesn't feel anything. (Of course my huge tumor was not palpable either -- too diffuse.) He was not concerned.

I complained to my breast surgeon about underarm pain on my good side. She said they call it "sympathy pain." It's the Tamoxifen affecting the breast tissue. There is a lot of breast tissue going towards the underarm. She said it means the Tamoxifen is working.

I too had the exact same surgery as your mother and I too have pain in my right breast.  They are not worried about it since my mammos have been good.  They both get extremely sore just prior to my period (more sore than they ever used to). I am 43.  She should never stop checking for lumps or abnormalities though.  GOOD LUCK
