I'm terrified that I might have IBC!
Hi everyone. I have been reading these discussions for a couple weeks now and the love and support on here is amazing!
I'm a 37 year old Canadian girl. (I hope that's ok). On Christmas Eve, I was feeling pain in my right breast. I didn't think much of it at first because I've had tenderness before. That night, I was in the shower and noticed that I had a large, bright red swollen area on my breast. There was a white line around this surface, I'm guessing because of the swelling. I got out of the shower and further inspected it in the mirror. There was also a lump about the size of a quarter. It was purplish and hurt when touched.
Because it was the holidays, I waited until the 27th and went to the walk in clinic. I asked the doctor if he knew much about ibc and he admitted that he didn't, but currently has a patient with it.
He looked at my breast, drew a line around the red area and said that he suspects it is mastitis, but wasn't taking any chances. He prescribed some antibiotics and scheduled a mammogram and ultrasound.
I finished the antibiotics about 4 days ago. They took the redness away, but the lump is still there and tender. There is also some dry type skin on top of the lump.
Today, I noticed more pain and the redness is coming back. I'm freaking out!! (I have an anxiety disorder to begin with). If it is mastitis, can it get worse again after antibiotics?
I am going for my mammogram in the morning and I'm terrified, even though I know that ibc is rarely detected this way.
Thanks for listening. My anxiety is through the roof!

Hotmess,
It's good to know they ordered both mammo & ultrasound. If there is any detection on these tests, they will send you for a biopsy. I had to wait a few weeks to get to see a doctor in the states so don't worry they are checking this out quick enough.
Hope it is just mastisis, but let us know.

hotmess please let us know how you are.
and if your not satisfied what you hear re mammogram ask for a biopsy, demand a biopsy, ibc does not always show up in mammograms.
if in doubt shout your head off.

. It is much appreciated. My mammogram was rescheduled to tomorrow afternoon, so I will let you know.
I'm definitely a pushy person, so I won't give up!
Have a great day everyone.
