Hi HLB,
"I just bought some Bobs Red Mill baking soda"
This is what googling in NZ just brought up. What do you pay in the US? Lately I've been getting really brassed off at the exhorbitant prices we are charged here and someone is getting fat out of it. Heres an excerpt ...
QUOTE:
453 gms Bob's Red Mill Premium (baking soda bicarbonate of soda) - aluminum and gluten free for alkalizing the body.
Red Mill Baking Soda is made from the deposits of mineralized sodium bicarbonate. It is extracted by an all-natural water process that uses no chemicals. This is also the only baking soda to use if you bake and want to keep as healthy and natural as possible. This is a top quality leavening agent, to be used in combination with buttermilk, cocoa, and other acidic ingredients for baking.
Baking soda is also a great household cleanser and odor absorber.Quickest way to alkaline your body each morning.
Mix together 1/2 tspn baking soda and juice of 1/2 lemon in large glass, add 8oz of water and drink. The lemon is beneficial for the liver and the baking soda helps alkaline the body and stops the acidity of the lemon from leeching minerals from the body. Combining the two ingredients also gives you a pleasant flavour with all the benefits.
The other alternative is to have 1/2 a tspn of just the baking soda in a cup of hot water. Do this every hour in cases where you suspect that you are about to come down with the flu.
To really 'seal the deal' also take 10 drops of oreganol or grapefruit seed extract in vege caps 3 times a day and it will despatch any symptoms in a very short time.

musical, meant to say, have you heard the musical, midnight oil?? (not)... sorry my friend a chemo brain moment, lol... complained of headaches to onc today and he is ordering brain scan, true!! forgive me (mwah)
today i had my results for bloods and ct scan.. all good, large nodes on chest shrunk by 80% and the mass of small nodes almost invisible.
the surprising thing was my bloods were excellent and he was suprised that they were as good as they were, hmmm???
bicarb, maple, cats claw, or curcumin or the chemo which one??? i asked in jest,
he said for now, whatever your doing keep doing it and when i asked about the salt in bicard, he said the amount of bicarb i was having and because i dont have any salts placed in my food, the amounts would be fine.
im having 2 level teaspoons per day.
he would not say it was good bad or ugly the combo but assured me it would not hurt me.
hlb - thx for your comments, speaking to my onc today, so glad that im with him and got rid of the other one that would not listen to anyone, even my bs wanted me to have more chemo and she refused blankly.
my new onc calls a spade a spade and basically a few times has said with any new treatment it had to be discovered and sometimes many treatments used today were written off at first until much further investigating showed that this could be used as a cancer treatment and is used today.
even navalbine which im on my onc has the plant / flower growing in his back yard today, when they first starting testing it there wasnt rave reviews until years later.
only you can say if you should give something a go and especially when its not classified standard treatment, no one can make that decision for you.
as ive said many times i would prefer to just take the bicarb but ive started on the 2 and will do until im convinced one or the other does not do what they say.
momine i think we are all pretty safe with a slice of lemon he he.

I got a one pound bag of the Bobs red Mill BS for $2.59. That is interesting what you posted. Maybe I could add the bs to my hot lemon water and see how that is.
Wow 80 percent reduction! Yay! How is the taste of the bs/ms mixture? Do you put it in the fridge and heat it up again or do you havve to make a fresh batch of one tsp each time? Of all the info out there I can't seem to find the answer to this? Thanks ladies. -
HLB,
Please explain to me how adding lemon juice, acidity of 2.5 (average) will make alkaline water for the body? All citric fruits will add acid to the diet as citric imples citric acid.
Thank you. -
HLB Im sure Ive seen either in this thread or from a link somewhere the exact dosage and prep. Just cant remember right now but theres definitely documentation on it.
Liv- Hey!!! thats wondeful news. HUGS. I'm so pleased with your results. Lets hope this trend continues .....
Yes Ive heard of Midnight Oil. I like some of their songs, especially the music...they could get a better vocalist though I feel. Some of the songs fit his style more than others. Really like the structure of some songs. Sooorry when I start on music I get all analytical and digress BIG TIME
. LOL.I did a little more poking around on the net last night but ran out of time to post so I'll put it up now. At the end of the day we all have to make that choice for ourselves what we're going to do with the knowledge we have and FIGHT to get. It is soooo great when we have a great med team or someone on that team who will really pull for us. I think with everything including mainstream, theres always going to be two sides. I've presented some of that below but I hope it helps to weigh up for ourselves what to do. Even if we decide to have BS then theres extra considerations like:
1/the claims of being aluminium free
2/the purity and origin of BS
3/the interactions and/or interference it may have with other medications as well as the alleged depletion of Vitamens and Minerals.
4/ the sodium content
5/the sugar issue

Article: Does Arm and Hammer Baking Soda Contain Aluminum?
Some interesting comments below this article. Two in particular interested me. The 1st commenter was pooh hooed as a troll. However the interesting thing he points out is really for ordinary people like me, there is no way of knowing for sure because we dont have the knowledge or means to test and varify things. We would all need to become physicists chemists and scientists!Emphasis in bold mine. If anyone REALLY wants to get their finger on the pulse...google Codex Alimentarius ... Scary Scary stuff.

It's not possible, and even if it were possible, no one would have any way of knowing because you can't have a measuring device with infinite precision. Now, it could be that Congress or the FDA passed a law or rule that says 99.5+% = 100%. That is the question and its a fair question. We look up and scour the internet for answers such as these. Who do you believe? Who's claim do you believe? What credentials should they hold? What exactly sways you to believe what you read? One thing we can all agree on. The fact is either Lemon creates an alkaline environment or it doesnt, so which one is it?

hlb - the taste with maple syrup is the most disgusting thing ive ever tasted...ive actually switched to honey which is at least palatable.
the mix is one teaspoon bicarb to 3 teaspoons of maple syrup. so i do 30 teaspoons of honey, you can have either honey, maple syrup or molasses whichever you prefer, mollasses has less carbs,
-- to 10 teaspoons of bicarb which gives me 2 servings pr day for 5 days.
after cooking and cooled & binded i place the batch for five days in a sealed container and no i dont reheat it as it has already been cooked for 5 minutes and has binded.
xx
musical thx yes it was a huge relief with scan results.
i also read about depleting the body of b12 and folic acid so ive doubled my dose but not recommending anyone do that unless advised.
and spot on about the hidden bits in just about all our food, msg comes under numbers, codes, fancy names, different enhancers all trying to deceive us.
thanks for the links, interesting.
xx
promise i wont call you midnight ms musical.

In regard to lemon juice creating alkaline water, it is not scientific. when lemon juice has a much lower pH than water, basic chemistry says it is acid water, not alkaline water.
Try it yourself. Put lemon juice in water, use pH paper., and see it is acidic, not alkaline. -
thx motheroffour - no girls - are the boys off your hands - must have been a lot fun, have never come accross 4 boys no girls.
im no scientist but just thinking id put a wager your right regarding the lemon juice.

The lemon is not alkaline itself, but citrus fruits alkalize the body when you consume them. That's why you have to go by foods that alkalizing as opposed to being alkaline themselves.
-
The lemon water is like a mini cleanse for the liver.

thx hlb

thx HLB...I think this warrants more explanation. Do you think you could enlighten us more. I don't know what is the actual "final word" on all this, as in proof and where you go to get it. White Papers? All it could be is a simple chemistry lesson, but no chemistry is simple to me. Talk in Octaves and I'm right there.... but Chemistry, I need a serious helping hand. Know what I mean?

musical - funny lady 'the white pages' ....would hope so!!
-
as we speak, type right now im indulging in my first dose of honey/bicarb.. much better than maple syrup but still pretty average and just realised my onc, luv him has upped my navalbine, doubled it, cheeky monkey, i did tell him i can take anything he throws at me but i wish he would tell me first. same as last month picked up xeloda and downing them 2 in the morning 2 in the evening, finished 3 weeks and still 42 tablets left then i read he had upped the dose to 3 twice daily. just shows im so busy asking him a zillion questions and we always run out of time.
xx

Hi Musical, I do not have proof of the alkalizing properties of citrus fruits. If you do a search for an alkaline food chart you will get about 100 examples of the chart and they all have the same info about which foods are acid producing and which foods are alkalizing. It's a very handy list to have. Just do a search and pick your favorite one! I have two different ones I use, one of them was given to me by a pediactric oncologist who also does holistic medicine.

hi everyone my name is Callie I'm always reading the post and this 1 caught my attention.. just a week ago on the news they were talking about a bicarbonate of soda pill to treat cancer I am not kidding you ! it will be tailored to the individual . this is exciting .....there is hope ladies let's all stay positive

hello waitingtoex - thx for input, yes it appears bicarb is the new millennium "everything treatment" but not yet substantiated for cancer treatment.
a pill perhaps, if so they may change its composition, too much salt.

Sodium Bicarbonate
Other common name(s): Simoncini Cancer Therapy, baking soda
Scientific/medical name(s): NaHC03
Description
Sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, is promoted by some alternative practitioners as cancer treatment. This treatment is based on the theory that cancer is cause by a form of yeast infection and that sodium bicarbonate can kill the yeast. This claim is not supported by science or clinical evidence and is contrary to widely-accepted basic facts of oncology and microbiology.
Sodium bicarbonate is used as a conventional treatment for disorders in which the blood is too acidic. It is also used as an over-the-counter remedy for heartburn.
Overview
Available scientific evidence does not support claims that cancer is caused by infection with a type of yeast known as Candida albicans. Available scientific evidence also does not support the idea that sodium bicarbonate works as a treatment for any form of cancer or that it cures yeast or fungal infections. There is substantial evidence, however, that these claims are false. Although sodium bicarbonate is safe when used in proper doses and as directed as a conventional treatment, high doses can cause serious problems or even death.
How is it promoted for use?
Sodium bicarbonate is promoted by some alternative practitioners, especially Dr. Tullio Simoncini, as a cure for all types of cancer. This claim is made on several Web sites, in videos of Dr. Simoncini posted on the Internet, and in a book written by Dr. Simoncini.
What does it involve?
Sodium bicarbonate is given by some alternative practitioners by mouth (orally) or into a vein (intravenously). It is also given intra-arterially (into an artery supplying blood to the tumor) and is sometimes given as a solution directly through the trachea (windpipe) into the lungs to treat lung cancer.
What is the history behind it?
The main proponent of sodium bicarbonate as an alternative cancer treatment is Tullio Simoncini, MD. Information on the Internet describes how Dr. Simoncini concluded that cancer is caused by Candida albicans and can be cured with baking soda. The sequence of events and timeline are not described in detail.
According to the Cancer Treatment Watch Web site, "[Dr. Simoncini] has been using unsubstantiated cancer treatments for 15 years… in 2003, his [Italian] license to practice medicine was withdrawn, and in 2006 he was convicted by an Italian judge for wrongful death and swindling… This has not stopped him from continuing to provide his controversial treatments, not only in Italy, but apparently also in foreign countries, such as the Netherlands." (Koene, Jitta. 2008)
What is the evidence?
No peer-reviewed articles in medical journals were found supporting the theory that cancer is caused by a fungus infection or a yeast infection. Available peer-reviewed medical journals do not support claims that sodium bicarbonate works as a cancer treatment.
Scientists require certain kinds of evidence to support claims that a kind of germ causes a certain disease. The first requirement is that the germ should be present in all cases of the disease. Simoncini claims that all tumors contain fungi. But these fungi have not been found in tumors when biopsies are examined by methods capable of revealing fungi in infected tissue. Another requirement is that infecting laboratory animals with the germ should cause the disease. Infections can develop in animals that are exposed to Candida albicans, but there are no credible reports that this exposure or infection causes cancer. Finally, when researchers remove diseased tissue from infected laboratory animals, they should be able to recover the germs and grow them in laboratory dishes. There are no reports in scientific journals that this has been observed for Candida albicans and cancer of experimental animals.
A number of Web sites propose various reasons people believe there is a connection between fungus and cancer (for example, that Candida albicans can cause serious infections, and that cancer is a serious disease). However, none of these Web sites show scientific evidence supported by credible experiments or clinical trials.
Fungal infection deep in the body is a serious health problem that can be fatal. Although a number of antifungal drugs are available to treat these infections, there is no evidence that sodium bicarbonate can. There is no evidence that most people with cancer have any deep tissue yeast or fungal infections. People whose immune systems are weakened by high doses of chemotherapy can sometimes contract these kinds of infections. While antifungal drugs can often cure the infection, there is no evidence that antifungal treatment causes the patients' tumors to shrink. If this had happened, the doctors caring for these patients would have been likely to report it in medical journals.
Some people with cancer have other health conditions for which sodium bicarbonate is used. But, again, there is no evidence that sodium bicarbonate has caused their tumors to shrink. Chewable sodium bicarbonate tablets or powder are a common over-the-counter treatment that is used to neutralize stomach acid that causes heartburn. Intravenous sodium bicarbonate is used as a conventional treatment to reduce acidity of blood in serious conditions like shock, severe dehydration, and uncontrolled kidney failure or diabetes.
Are there any possible problems or complications?
This substance may not have been thoroughly tested to find out how it interacts with medicines, foods, herbs, or supplements. Even though some reports of interactions and harmful effects may be published, full studies of interactions and effects are not often available. Because of these limitations, any information on ill effects and interactions below should be considered incomplete.
In general, oral and intravenous treatment with sodium bicarbonate that is given for the right reasons and in proper doses is considered safe. Concern has been raised that the same substance can be dangerous in other medical situations. The Cancer Treatment Watch Web site quotes the Netherlands Health Inspectorate:
… there are no scientific data that justify the administration of sodium bicarbonate to patients with cancer… the administration of sodium bicarbonate even has risks for patients with high blood pressure, patients with diseases of lungs, heart, or kidneys and for patients with cancer. This is certainly the case if a number of specific blood levels are not monitored daily before, during and after the treatment. The balance of the body can become completely disturbed when large amounts are administered. In severely ill patients, this may lead to organ damage. In sick people, there is in fact irresponsible health care if this product is administered without monitoring. (2008)
Relying on this type of treatment alone and avoiding or delaying conventional medical care for cancer may have serious health consequences.

I am finding these posts very valuable, and inspiring...I am looking for anything to throw at this awful disease as I have recently had a rather large, and completely unexpected progression.! I wish MORE success stories with this would come forward. As for me, I am going upstairs to make up this tonic ! You all are such inspirational ladies!
-
I am stage 4/BreastCancer - As for the BiCarb, all alternative....Well, I thought it was bunk, but when told when 1st dx'd, we'll just fill your tank w/chemo -(ooowwwie), then we'll slice off your breast, take ALL your lymph nodes-(my eyes were getting bigger and bigger; then doc saw my face, patted me on the back and said, oh, don't worry, we'll slice off part of your tummy and make you a brand new breast - YIKES!) Was all I could do to keep from running out of there like I had ingested rocket fuel! But - he wasn't done yet - Hey, we'll make sure you are clean, we'll radiate you with our super duper radiation blaster - WELL, after I went a little crazy, ummmm, a lot crazy, started doing some investigating. I found LASERBREASTCANCERSURGERY - went to NY, had the laser treatment, got ALL the tumor out, all the splatter spots, only needed 4 lymph nodes removed --sure beats having them ALL taken out!. Wow, was that ever easy, no pain, no cutting, no misery, got up and walked off the op table, went to dinner that night, only needed couple vicodin for pain, that was for the small incision to remove the lymph nodes. Doc's here still insisted I needed chemo as my tumor markers, CEA/CA15-3/CA25-27 were---were, over the moon, now they are below normal---just got the news today!!!! YIPEE! Doc's said this is impossible without chemo....I have had NO chemo/NO radiation, I did lots of research, read over 20 books, found doctors polled said they were refuse chemo if they got cancer, yet they spoon feed it to everyone else. SO....I started my journey, first the Asparagus puree every day for 3 months, along with the bicarb/maple syrup. I researched cancer specific nutrients that actually eat cancer cells, YES, there are nutrients that actually EAT cancer cells--even Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has acknolwedged this fact. FUCOIDAN! Grapeseed extract, plus I eat grapes every day, Tumeric/Curcumin, LaetrileB-17, several others, whatever anyone says is appreciated, I respect anyone's decision to map out their own journey; but we each have to be our own advocate, no one loves us like we love ourself, or should. We are good for no one else if we are not healthy, I have a husband 4 children, 2 mine, 2 from husband - who lost his first wife from Breast Cancer. (They are always our children even tho they are now full fledged adults with families of their own). No way I would put him thru that nightmare again, died at the age of 34 leaving two small boys. We've now been married 37 years, we lost one of his sons to LungCancer about 10 years ago, only 42 years old, my husband had prostate cancer, now clean and free. No one asked if we wanted this beast, so let's be diligent, I know doc's mean well, but they are all tied to the same tether, they must follow guidelines laid out by the pharmaceutical co's and big medical establishments--- but ladies..and some gents , yes, men get BC as well, we know we are all different, just as our cancers are different, inflammatory, DCIS, Triple Neg, etc. you can't paint us with the same brush from the same paint can and expect the same results. WE are unique and deserve specialized care as individual "special" people. I am now going into my 3rd year since dx'd, all bloodwork is perfect, stats, scans, all perfect----as are my tumor markers!!! I was covered in mets: head---had basal cell carcinona (excised) lungs, liver, thyroid, ribs, pelvis and spine. NOW: All soft tissue has been clear since November 2011, ribs clear as of March, 2012, spine met is diminishing in size (I am also taking cesium chloride -it does work on bone mets). My doc is not happy, I just don't understand....I thought they would be thrilled, do they want us to croak? Anyway, I wish you all the very best, but for me, I will continue on alternative. Diet, I avoid sugars, glutemates, milk, etc. Eat whole foods, and yes, keep the body alkaline, cancer cannot thrive in alkaline body, it needs acidic enviornment to thrive, I hear this arguement every day, the body does have gluecose, but common sugars are different. Just do a little research, we've been conditioned to think Cancer is the greatest scourge on the planet, it probably is, but we can beat it. Ialways did my exams, had my mammograms, told all is well, then 14 months after getting an all clear find I have STAGE 4 BC - what happened to 1 -2 -3! So, just as most, I put my trust in doctors//medical, but I still do my own research, never again will I put ALL my trust in medical! Blessings to all....stay strong!
